Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ischgl/Galtur

Just back from Ischgl / Galtur

Saturday - raining in Innsbruck, snowing in Galtur. Were lucky that the plane even managed to land. Some unfortunates had to go to Munich.

Sunday - Galtur - Flat light, low cloud and more snow. Off piste looked really good but good luck in finding your way down... On piste was fresh over soft pisted snow, very pleasant.

Monday - Ischgl - Bluebird day, accessible off piste already tracked out... Pistes in good nick although got icy pretty quickly. Getting back into Ischgl no problem if a tad exciting.Went down the flatter of the two duty free runs into Switzerland. Made a mental note not to repeat this on a snowboard and get the bus instead.

Tuesday - Galtur - Another great day, went round the 3 ski routes with varying degrees of success, ranged from badly tracked out with moguls to some really nice untracked stuff. Galtur pistes in better condition than Ischgl...

Wednesday - Ischgl - Snowing / poor vis all day. Pistes still fine. Didnt venture offpiste. Remembered about the buses in Switzerland this time.

Thursday - Ischgl - Still snowing, did a ski route in great snow. Pistes still same as before, fairly hard and icy in places. Did the other duty free run into Switzerland. Nice curry wurst and chips up the hill! Temperature inversion in the afternoon, beautiful ice crystals in the air at the boundary between cold and warm air.

Friday - Galtur AM, Ischgl PM. A bluebird day with another temperature inversion. Lapped a ski route for a few times with plenty of fresh lines to be had. Ventured into Ischgl for some more entertainment. Pistes still the same, braved the run back into the village...

So the snow was great, weather alternating between amazing and bad but did 6 full days and really enjoyed it!

Although small I really enjoyed the Galtur ski area, its quiet, interesting terrain and very friendly.

We stayed in a B&B Galtur, everything seemed cheaper there. Getting the ski bus wasnt much of a chore as it stopped outside our accommodation.
