Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What fun, they've all gone psychedelic! Very Happy I like the tribal look of Ski Logic though. Designing skis - what a top job! Toofy Grin

A bloke in the pub whose friend of a friend had a relative who worked in the sports industry said the industry got together every year to decide which colours / designs would be "in" for the following season. After looking at those pics I'm thinking they didn't come to an agreement this year. Wink

There are some scary 80s retro graphics going on there.

What do people think about the CoreUPT show, where the graphics were not shown, just blank skis? Marketing or the start of the end?????

Surely it can't be the end for CoreUPT, aren't they owned by Danone or something - I'm sure they could afford to keep it going, plus they've just signed a load of new riders for their team - must be marketing.

monkey1, The company may have alot of cash, no doubt, but they sell skis don't they. I wouldn't pay for a stand at ISPO purely to say, designs coming soon........
No matter how much money you want to throw at a project, the investors (being the key term) will expect a sign of a return at some point, we're now 3 years in................

SMALLZOOKEEPER, fair point, but if the company was going tits up surely it would be equally pointless to get a stand at ISPO just to say "now you see us, now you don't"

monkey1, They have an investment to protect, better not being their and maybe launching at the X. Games Tignes., which perhaps they will as primary sponsor.
Incidentally, Candide will be the french commentator on Cannel+ instead of competing. We have all seen him at the FWT, he's fit, so surely that's an admission that he is no longer a contender for such events.

Ah, not just me then... Wink It does seem to be solely focussed on fat twin tips Sad (I'm only disappointed as I'm nowhere near cool enough to own such a thing... Wink)

Monium, don't be ridiculous, of course you are, most of the twin tips these days are actually really good to ski on the piste and all over the hill, in fact they are generally very good all-mountain skis, and the some of the park skis, like the Head J.O Pro or Amplid C7 are great for carving, don't let the twin tip put you off.

Could maybe just be the website that has that focus, rather than the manufacturers? Although freeride does seem to be becoming more prominant across the board.

I don't understand how skis can be too 'cool' for someone though, when they're on your feet your skiing is the only thing that matters.

clarky999, I'm guessing that's what it is. There must be far more 'normal' skiers like me in the world than there are specialist off-piste and/or park skiers.

Hopefully the 'normal' skis have slightly more palatable graphics too. Very Happy

Although I wonder what the proportion of 'normal' skiers with freeride aspirations is... I imagine that's who most of the money for twintips comes from!

Interesting ...very interesting. Madeye-Smiley

I've always fancied a cool looking twin-tip (purely for the asthetic/looks) - but had assumed there would be a pay-off in how well the actually work for the average skier.

So, which twin-tips do you reckon would be a good for mainly on-piste (with a bit of playing around, off the side of pistes)?

I don't even know what 'freeride' means! Very Happy

But I have no aspirations to off-piste or park. I don't have the youth, ability, insurance or inclination.

abj, Amplid C7 is specifically designed to perform on piste and the Head J.O Pro is pretty good as well just because they are quite stiff for a park ski so they can hold an edge on a bullet proof piste at warp speed. Volkl, Dynastar, and Blizzard all have park skis at the stiffer end of the spectrum as well, and the Armada Pipe Cleaners are pretty good at holding an edge too - they are specifically designed to grip the walls of an icy pipe, which isn't really that different to gripping on a carve on the piste. If you want something to occassionally head off-piste with, go for something like the Volkl Bridge, they are a kind of one ski to do it all. Most brands have something similar, but this is the one I've heard most about.

Hope that helps

I have no aspirations to race, so a WC Tech 15x DoubleLamoTurbo OversiZed Radical Concept Proflex RXC4312678 with go faster stripes drawn on it by a colourblind ex-racer with no sense of form is not what I'd consider a ski for normal people (especially when that ski is in fact nothing of the sort and is simply a bog standard job with WC Tech 15x DoubleLamoTurbo OversiZed Radical Concept Proflex RXC4312678 printed on the top of it to appeal to the sort of people who ride 50cc motorscooters with Rossi '46' livery on and a fag company's name down the side).

For a given value of 'normal' of course. Who knows, you may all be freaks

The problem is that "normal" skiers tend to go for 1 week's hol a year (or a couple of weekends in N America). They are more likely to rent than buy and if they do buy at 6 days use pa they aren't going to need new skis any time in a decade. So they hardly get to dictate the market in terms of innovation.
