Hi there. My fiance and I are both skiiers (me fairly good), her (OK) so would need a place with quite a number of blues and reds to build her confidence.
We are both teacher and are getting married in April. We have a week off school after we get married so are thinking of going away for 3/4 days skiing after the wedding as we are not going on our honeymoon until the summer holidays. We are struggling to find anything suitable. We cant book it with tour operators as they only offer weeks. We need to be going on the 12/13th April for 3/4 days (mid-week)
We are looking for -
-- Best chance of snow
-- Good value accomadation
-- Just a fun time . . .
If you have any accomadation you would like to rent out or any ideas for us please help. We are gettign quite frustrated. Great to hear from some of you who have been skiing in this time of the year (mid-April).
We would not bother if the chance of snow are very low. We normally go in Jan but are now not allowed to take time off school for holidays.
Thanks so much - please help

rachelalan2000,
Does not hit the good value bit but for great late season snow, lovely place. Romantic place for a prehoneymoon and plenty of skiing for just about anyone Zermatt hits the spot.
SHould be able to get a short stay hotel .

Welcome to Snowheads
chill chalet in Bourg St. Maurice, take yer pick of Ste Foy, Val D'izzle, Tignes, La Rosiere or Les Arcs/La Plagne to ski
chaletarc in peisey nancroix - cheeeeeeeepp and ski les arcs / la plagne
Chalet St. Bernard les arcs self catering appt, pretty nice skiin/out in les arcs..availability from 14th, might do you a deal on a price for part week. Owned by friendly snowhead
Apex Morzine - also run by friendly snowheads, a B&B type place in morzine.
Ski Weekender - will do the TO bit so you don't have too..
There's really lots of places - you need to narrow a bit more by accommodation type - chalet, hotel, hostel, apartment or similar, and possibly resort or at least country. Plus if this is after the wedding whether you care about the 'chi chi ness' factor of the resort - for example Flaine might have accommodation but for a pre-honeymoon it's a bit nuclear bunkerish...
Narrow the options and you'll possibly get a better response... if you want to look at self-catering appts owned by snowheads then this list should get you started - http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=39913
Good luck and have a great trip...

You want to stay high so try Tignes - Les Melezes in Tignes Les Boisses has quite a following on here for early season trips - they seem to offer quite flexible accommodation options and good value transfers from Geneva - even have a hot tub

We did Chamonix in late April for a long week-end a couple of years ago. Booked a hotel on the internet, flew EasyJet Bristol to Geneva and picked up a hire car at the airport. Not the cheapest trip ever but the snow was fine and no queues plus a big party because it was the end of season.

PS Skiweekends also do TO arranged short breaks of any number of nights with weekday or weekends with car /flights / snow sure resorts to the end of April see http://www.skiweekends.com/pages/resorts/flydrive.aspx
We used them for a couple of long week-ends with the coach to Brides Les Bain, great value for the 3 valleys and hardly any time off work...

rachelalan2000, Welcome to Snowheads
We have availability for that week in both our studio to sleep 4 and our 3 bedroom apartment to sleep 6. We are flexible on start dates and durations and only charge for the nights you stay.
The resort of Champagny is an unspoilt village linked into the La Plagne ski area which is open this season until 24th April. The main ski area in Champagny is at 2000 metres, snow depths are usually good at that time of year, however the runs back to Champagny in the afternoon can be heavy as they are south facing. We tend to spend most of the days in April on the higher slopes of the La Plagne area and only use the south facing runs to get back home.
You can see more details on our website www.skichamp.co.uk , we can also help find the best deails for flights and transfers.
You can contact us by sending a PM (personal message) or via the Booking enquiry page on our website

Thanks so much for you rideas guys. Will check them all out tonight.
Accomadation does not need to be 5 star - as long as it is comfortable and average will be fine. We are trying to do it on a budget so anywhere were EasyJet flies . . .
Thanks

Have just returned from 4 day trip to Gressoney La Trinite staying at the Defour hotel (recommended) full report on trips soon. We live in Pembs and got wed flight to Milan Malpensa and returned Sunday from Bristol Easyjet. Can't comment on snow in April but Chamonix is not far away and other people are recommending there.

You know it makes sense.

Easy : fly to Geneva, Grenoble or Lyon and rent a car. From there drive to whatever resorts you fancy. One day in Espace Killy, another in the Three valleys and the two last day in one of the lesser known resorts either in the Maurienne Valley, Les Carroz/Flaine/Samoens or even Chamrousse on your way back to the airport. Keep it flexible and open. Sleep in hotels/guesthouses in the valley.

Yep - bargain rates available and loads cheaper for food and drink. Try Accor Hotels website:
Ibis at Sallanches - 20 mins from Chamonix and loads of other areas nearby.
Ibis at Moutiers - World's your oyster from there (3 Vallees, Espace Killy, Paradiski, La Rosiere, Valmorel all within easy striking distance).
For a more budget option (also via the Accor website) there's the Etap in Alberville (which is 15 mins further from the skiing than Moutiers).
Or for rock bottom prices it's got to be the Formule 1 in Alberville - same style rooms as Etap but not ensuite. We managed a week there once From posts on here though, it would seem that you either love Formule 1 ('cos of the price) or you hate it!
There are also a fair few non-chain type hotels in Bourg St Maurice, Moutiers and Brides les Bains (for direct gondola access to Meribel and the 3 Vallees). We booked a Bourg St Maurice Hotel on Expedia once (Hotel Golf - excellent and in a good spot) - so that may be worth a try.
By the way, snow-wise early April is not a risk at all in the high French resorts. Espace Killy, Val Thorens, Chamonix etc are ALWAYS open with excellent snow cover until early May. We skied powder to resort level in Tignes on 30th April last season - and at that time the runs were open down to Les Brevieres at 1500m.
