Frosty the Snowman, of course it isn't. If majorities wanted their own groups for whatever purpose, then there's no reason why not. It's just that majorities generally get to spend time with their own 'kind' without needing the comfort and solace of a group. If you belong to a minority of some sort, it can be a daunting and unfriendly world out there.

Frosty the Snowman, I was being facetious. And speaking as someone who's mother is active in the local WI, I would rather go up against the local branch of the BNP than try and face down the Women's Institute *shudder*

never really understood people whining about being treated 'differently' then doing everything they can to accentuate their 'differenceness'

mugen, Its tough being a scientist at the best of times - you spend 30 years doing degrees, higher degrees and writing papers. You gets paid pennies. And then some real expert comes along and puts your job title in inverted commas.

mugen, first things first; there is no "myriad of", you can have "myriad influences", but the "of" is superfluous </pedant>
Secondly, you are quite correct in saying that there are musical styles throughout the world that are not of black origin. However within the context of the original question referring to the MOBO awards and why wasn't there a MOWO awards, I made the assumption that the scope would be limited to popular western music genres. My great apologies go out to all lovers of German Oompah, Gregorian Chant and Mongolian nose-flutes.

i have a feeling the point is something like if the majority stopped reacting badly collectively to gayness and "normal" activity like canoodling etc between same sex couples in the generally straight frequented places were no-one bats an eyelid if it is between a man and a woman, then gay weeks would disappear? The argument i suspect is something about the general world being an "affinity group" for the majority - hence discrimination being about minorities.
