Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

So yes I admit I was trying to photoslut but is that a crime? According to mister F-Off huge rock it is and he extracted this penalty:

Bad times but it could have been my ankle and if it had been 4 inches further back no doubt I'd have had to call out a heli, still it's a risk we all take and that board gave over 150 days service, mainly off piste and hit quite a few rocks previously as the core shot repairs would attest to. The sad thing is this could happen on the first day out, I doubt it'll change my approach to ski/board hardware as it's there to be used, not looked at and the slim chance of breaking it in one impact isn't one to really care about, however, it can happen so be aware of the danger and take care... but have fun!

Edit to add a photo of the damage at the time:

taken by Norris

Bode Swiller, I'm not one to worry about damage but I'd wager this is pretty terminal. Mind I still did another run down stairway and then rode the piste back, quite entertaining to watch what was a pretty stiff board vibrate like mad once over about 20 mph and creak with every turn.

Hoping Norris got a photo of the impact, almost rode away from it except for the slightest hint of ar$e meeting ground wink

Swirly, Oh dear! Did that happen when your board fell from its storage rack in your garage roof? I expect those photos will fit on you household insurance claim form Laughing Or perhaps not wink

To trash a plank after 150 days - 5 months - use, is a result. I think I did it a bit quicker on a Cairngorm rock.

Swirly, ouuuuch! That looks like one hell of an impact. Were you landing a jump? I've hit some rocks pretty hard but never done anything approaching that....

As my friend says: skis are there to protect your feet against rocks. And I think he'd extend that to boards if pressed.
(reminds me of pictures I saw of a surfboard with a big shark bite chomped out.)

bobinch, Barry's bowl, below and to skiers right of the higher entry couloir. He was going quite quickly but there was no obvious impact. Norris and I were (pleasantly) surprised he walked out of it.

gorilla, no obvious impact!? He must have thighs like Oak trees (or be a huge fat lad) to do that to a ski without visible impact.

Saying that he did look like he was panting a bit in that photo you posted of him approaching the top of Rosablanche.....

Seriously, lucky he did no season ending damage. It's only January and it gets better in Verbier from here on... Very Happy

Last year April was best so pace yourselves lads!

bobinch, I wouldn't say no obvious impact: there was a horrific noise and I slightly sat down but nowhere near what you#d expect for the damage done. I was trying to do a big slash for the photo so basically turned quite aggressively on top of it, if I'd been going straight it would probably have just been a massive core shot alternatively if I'd hit underfoot then bye bye ankle. I rode down to the walk out thinking I must have done something but the board actually felt fine, it was only when I got to the bottom and took it off to check.

snowball, the rock looked a bit like a sharks fin.

RPF, think it's supposed to be snowy for the next few days, getting progressively heavier towards Sunday, might cover up those rocks a bit more Laughing

Swirly, Pretty decent war wound mate. Hang it above the fireplace when you get your remote mountain hut.
