Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I'm in Champoluc at the weekend and the forecast is glacial. -24 and -37 with windchill. I've got lots of base layers, mid layers and windproof layers, plus I ski in a helmet. The question is, what else can I do to make this bearable.

Ideas so far:
- neoprene Canadian-style face masks (make you look like a burglar)
- silk glove liners (make you feel like a lady)
- plenty of vin chaud (make you feel special inside)
- stay indoors (make you feel sad)

Anything else?

- Ditch silk and go merino wool (makes you feel technical).
- Battery powered boot warmers for during the day (makes your toes feel less frostbitten).
- Gel heat pads for gloves and or toes (makes your hands feel less frostbitten, for a while).
- Hire a ski bunny (makes you feel loved, for a while).
- A large mug of 'Man-Up' (makes you feel like chopping wood).

albinomountainbadger, 'Man-up' sounds like the sort of stuff thats meant to give you wood rather than help you chop it...

Other than that I just got about 250 handwarmers (ok, well, a lot anyway), which I propose to sellotape all over me.

Plus my ski bunny lovely wife is coming so I'm sorted for apres-ski warmth (hopefully).

michael stocking, where are you getting your weather forecast from? It sounds rather unlikely to me and conflicts with the Monterosa site which is forecasting a fairly typical range. That's only as far as Thursday though.

Not saying you're wrong of course snowHead snowHead

under a new name, well it is snow-forecast.com, which isn't over-reliable. Looking at the Monterosa site, you're right, they're way off from each other. Metcheck's a bit more reasonable too, but the scary temps were forecast for Saturday/Sunday which the other 2 sites don't forecast. Probably because more than 3 days out is guesswork.

Both Meteo France & Suisse are predicting that it will be seriously cold Sunday/Monday, but without giving specific temperatures yet. Plus the French one says the North wind will be "insupportable" - probably best translated as "unbearable"
