Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

queen bodecia, Mottaret etc would be cheating a little but day trips are legitimate, my Kirkwood and Heavenly were day trips I managed to sandwich them in between Vegas and Maui when I got married (Lord knows how the other half fell for that one)! Laughing

Haha - did all the aforementioned PdS ones in a day (except Abondance/La Chapelle d'Abondance), plus Morillon/Flaine/Samoens etc. on a different day in the same week.

cba to count that up.

Or being a bit more honest... 2... PDS+Flaine, or Zillertal Arena+Wengen, or Sella Ronda+Bovec (although the last was MTBing, but the lifts were still running I think).

I have never skied more than 1 week in a season.

But I managed in my one week this season to ski 7 different resorts last week (6 if you count the whole of The Ski Welt as one).

1. Kirchdorf (only for 45 minutes, but then there is only one chairlift Smile )
2. Westendorf
3. Steinplatte (Waidring)
4. Kitzbuhel
5. St Johan in Tirol
6. Leogang-Saalbach
7. Scheffau

All this thanks very much to Espri with whom I skied on four of those days, when he picked me up from my hotel and drove me to/from the start point each day.

Lake Louise (2 days)
Sunshine (2 days)
Norquay (1 day)
Kicking Horse (2 days)
Panorama (2 days)
Fernie (3 days) (all the above was technically our honeymoon, 2 week roadtrip round 6 resorts with 6 other guys)
Serre Chevalier, Briancon end (6 days, of which 3 boarding : never again) Confused

I could spilt Serre Chevalier in 4 distinct sub-resorts, but I won't cos it's all on one lift pass

There's a lot of cheating/puffing things up for peoples own benefit going on here. As far as i'm concerned if you used the same lift ticket it doesn't count as a different resort.

So for me it's probably -
La Grave
Serre Chevalier
Kicking Horse
Banff
Lake Louise

OK last season and no cheating

L2A
La Grave
AdH
Resort Q
Mont Genevre
Claviere
Serre Che
PSV
Alpe de Grand Serre

but I suppose with the exception of resort Q that was all on 1 season pass although we probably skied more than most do in a week at each place. That said in 3 weeks in one year I could claim all the Sella Ronda, PdS and 3 Vallees but almost all on piste and not really experiencing what each area has as a unique attraction. I guess it's a bit like cock waving when it comes to it.

For those of us in N.America, it's pretty normal to visit 10+ resort EACH season. One of the highest number for me was 2 years ago:

Aspen Highland
Aspen Mountain
Snowmass
Stowe
Mad River Glen
Killington
Pico
Thunder Ridge
Berkshire East
Hunter
Bellearye
Plattekill
A-basin
Loveland
Vail
Breckendridge
Beaver Creek

(that was 17 total, I had to "edit" to see them all to count! Shocked No cheating either, just smaller mountains in general)

This seaon will be another high resort count year:

Already:

Hunter
Windham
Jay Peak (yesterday)
Bretton Woods (today)
Waterville Valley (tomorrow)

Booked:

Snowbird
Alta
Canyons
Solitude
Powder Mountain
Snow Basin
Sundance
Deer Valley (maybe)

Telluride (on a seperate - 2nd trip than the 1st above)
(Silverton also a possibility)

Planned but not booked yet:

Copper Mountain
A-Basin
Winter Park

Remotely possible:

Sunday River
Bellearye
Plattekill

Looks like it'll be a 17+ mountain year!

That rather depends on the "lift ticket".

I don't think anybody would suggest that all resorts in the Austrian Salzburgerland are one resort, but it is possible now to get weekly or season tickets which cover the whole lot http://www.salzburgersuperskicard.com/ .

Or you can get a Kitbuhel Alps Allstar card which covers 7 regions that anybody I know would class as separate - Alpbachtal, Wildschonau, Kitzbuhel, Skiwelt, Schneewinkel, Leogang-Saalbach_hinterglemm Ski circus, Zell Am Zee-Kaprun.

I would be more inclined to say that if an area has its own multi-day ticket available, then it classes as a separate resort, even if you actually used a regional ticket that includes that area among others.

alex_heney, Right how about i rephrase if you have to get on a bus or into a car to get to a different hill then that counts. This means if you're interconnected to somewhere on the lift system then it doesn't count. HOWEVER the obvious exception to this is Chamonix as the resort centre is the centre of town in the valley which doesn't have any lifts of note running from it. This will also apply to any other resorts that are the same as Cham. Off of the top of my head i don't know of any but i'm sure there are a few other towns/resorts just like it.

That seems a reasonable criterion.

Another possibility would be whether the piste maps are separate for the areas, so even some bus-linked areas would still count as one (e.g. Kitzbuhel, where you need a bus across town to get from the stuff on the Kitbuheler Horn to the Hahnenkamm area, but it is all a single pass/piste map)

In that sort of situation, using your criterion above, I might suggest that you cannot count "Chamonix", but would count each of the areas which are not lift linked as separate. I'm not sure whether there is an "overall" piste map for the Chamonix area, or whether each area has a separate one, having only been there in the summer, so I don't know how my suggestion would work for that.

I think you're missing the point on Chamonix, but at the same time strengthening it with your kitzbuhl example. You don't go to one of the hills in Cham for a weeks skiing you go to Chamonix for the weeks skiing. There is no interconnectivity in the chamonix valley (quiet in the back anyone that thinks of mentioning brevent, flegere). So every morning you get up & get on a bus to where you want to go skiing it's just the way that cham works.

Same applies in your Kitzbuhl example I doubt you'd go to Hahnenkamm, you go to Kitzbuhl.
