Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

French toll booth maximum heights

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi

We are driving to the alps using the tunnel in a few weeks. Can anyone who has done the same thing let me know the maximum height you can get away with at the toll booths when in the autoresponder lanes.

We will be using a 4 wheel drive and I need to know what we can get away with on the roof

Thanks all

ochf, we have a Nissan X-Trail with a roofbox, must be well over the 2m stated, and it fits underneath the barrier without a problem, with one exception, at an exit near Chalons where we stay overight. There is an alternative though .

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Took a (very) big van over to Bourg St Maurice via Zebrugge using French toll roads, no issues with hight at any exit or toll - but we did pay with cash (ouch at times!)

ochf, when we have taken bikes, we end up going through the cash only ones. The height is pretty tight at about 2m.

I guess you can go through the lorry bits.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

ochf, By autoresponder, I assume you mean telepeage? if so and are worried about height keep to the right, there are telepeage lanes there without height restrictions

MarjMJ, The lorry thing is a bit of a myth. If you have a telepeage for a car you can go through any telepeage lane and you only get charged car rates. We have a Land Rover and last week with roof box we just went right every time where there were (empty) telepeage lanes with no height restrictions.

Have to admit to coming from side of ignorance thefatcontroller, as we've never got round to the telepeage sticker things yet, though I vaguely recall that the pay ones also have t on them too. Vaguely.
