Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Accident and insurance claim woes!

Hi Snowheads!

My son got hit in the face by a snowball on Christmas day(!) in Avoriaz and needed 4 stitches at the medical centre.

Our insurance won't pay up the €162 because our policy excess is £200 unless you use you EHIC card in a state hospital.

The guy at the pharmacy said we didn't need the EHIC.

I take it the clinic in Avoriaz is not a state hospital?

Anyone know of any other way we could claim?

Thanks in advance guys!

The clinic in Avoriaz is unlikely to be a state hospital. Even if it were then you still have to pay for some treatments upfront, and claim them back later. The EHIC allows the amount you get charged up front to be the same as the locals.

From what I can see I think unfortunately you would have to pay the €162 yourself.

cooky73, try sending all your feuille de soins, receipts, etc to the Department of Health (or whatever it's calling itself these days) along with a copy of your EHIC and the NHS may well reimburse a large part of the cost.

£200 - that's a hell of an excess!! Sad sympathise mightily with your misfortune but it's a timely warning - I'm just about to look around for a good deal for our insurance and I'll definitely be double checking the excess now.

the bigger the excess, the less premium, usually - it's a gamble!
