Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

From our snowBase resorts database, the official resort web site
http://www.sunpeaksresort.com/winter2/index.aspx
128cm mid mountain base depth (whatever that means). Also web cams, details of open trails etc. Have a good trip, Pedro and please give us a report when you get back.

Well, as I live in BC I can tell you that all of our mountains have been getting highly shafted snow-wise this year. With that being said, I'm sure there is still good skiing to be had - but you will have to find the few best runs, instead of having the mountains littered with them.

Pedro

We were in Sun Peaks last week and the conditions were good, but there has not been any new snow for well over a week. Basicaly there is a good base (very firm in some places) on most runs but a few bare patches were starting to show. The daily snow report on the website is very "up beat" but they did turn the snow cannons on to help the main runs.

While we were there the area below the mid section of the Burfield quad was closed due to lack of snow, without any new snow this can not have improved. The following runs were closed:
7 mile (lower section)
roller coaster
expo
freddy's nightmare
challenger
lower ridge
tighten yer boots

This did not efect our fun as there was plenty more excelent skiing to be had. There is very good snow on the main blue runs on Mount Morrisey, allthough the 4 short black runs on the side were looking thin. The main runs from the Sundance and sunburst chairs were still very good and exceptionaly well groomed.

The top section of Tod Mountain had very good cover so this shoul still be holding up well.

To summerise: the conditions are good but a dump off new snow would not go amiss.

Rob,

Thanks for your report - I'll get the prayer mat out!

Whilst I have your attention, can you give us some tips re general resort info (best pubs/eateries etc) - Not many people seem to have been so very few pointers available!

If you don't have time that's cool

cheers

Rob,

Out with the wife & staying at the Delta Sun Peaks.

Mainly on-piste intermediate ski-ing - was planning to do the ski school option for a few days

Also, looks like a few other available activities may be interesting (snowmobiling/biking etc)

Any ideas/views really appreciated.

cheers

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.
Pedro,

Hi.

We stayed at the Delta - Very Nice - especialy the hot tubs overlooking the piste (sorry Trail!!!), the food in the restrant is not up to the 4* rating of the rest of the Hotel (but still good). The Ski Velet service is very good (look out for the Avril Lavine look alike)

Sking wise you will love SP, excelent crusing blues and green most of which will still be in good nick regardles on the recent sunshine. If by any very remote chance you fine queue's for the Sundance and Sunburst chairs just go over to Morrisey as there is never any queues there. The blues down Morrisy are fantastic.

The ski school is excelent. Your wife may like ladies day on Thursday - my wife is going to do that next year ( Yes we've allready re-booked)

There is only 1 mountain restrant at the top of Sundance but there is plenty at the bottom. We particularly like the small coffee shop just on the right in the day lodge.

Just outside your hotel fron door is about a dozen restrants. Baddgio's is realy good, and our kids liked Toro - simple but good.

The kids loved the tube park ( I wimped out - bad back and all that! ) we did not try the snowmobiles / dogs / ice rink etc. as our kids were totaly shattered after the long days skiing.

I had a couple of trips out along the XC tracks which I would recomend if thats your thing?

Who are you going with?, Have you looked on the website? if you look at the webcams the one for the vilage shows the front door of the Delta.

If you have any more questions just ask.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Rob,

Thanks for the info and your time - excelllent.

We booked with Frontier Travel - first time i've used them but so far so good - Good price & service!

Just a couple more questions - What's the cost of living like out there? (principally the booze & food!) and would you recommend the Ski school option?
Also, what's this Ski-Valet service I've heard about?

It's re-assuring to see you've already booked to go again - a good indication that the resort must be decent - I'm just hoping the snow conditions stay OK as I've been looking forward to this for ages!

cheers

ps

How do you get over to Morrisey? Is it walking distance or is there a shuttle?

 You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
Pedro

We went with and have re-booked Ski Independance.

Prices were on par with the UK, nothing shocking nothing cheap.

Ski-Valet: When you arrive (after your ski hire if your hiring) you take your skis, boots and pole to the ski valet who stores tham foy you. After breakfast you go down in your ski gear but with normal footware. They will had you your boots to put on and put your skis by the door ready for you, they then store your shoes for you. You walk out of the door and put your skis on.

At the end of the day take the Gentle Giant trail past the hot tubs and scoot left up to the front door. Take of you skis, hand them to the valet who will give you your shoes and take your boots and put them on a dryer - All very civilised.

Yes I would recomend the ski school.

Two ways to get to Morrisy:

From the top of Sundance take Rambler and the Mt. Morrisy conector.

From the main vilage just take you skis of walk 50m across the road and over the bridge to the platter lift (button)

Morrisy is much colder as most of it is in the shade. This is why its quiet and why the conditions are the best.

I have some pictures which if I can fix my ftp I will put on a web page and let you see them.
