Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alpe d'Huez late season snow/best runs

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all

we're headed to Alpe d'Huez in April, staying in Oz-en-Oisans. having booked it as a high and pretty snow-sure resort, I've since read that late season can be poor due to the south-facing runs getting a lot of sun. Presumably higher up, conditions can still be ok? Also, can anyone recommend runs or areas to head for where conditions might be better? - its hard to tell from the piste map but it looks like the pistes above auris and montfrais may be a little less south-facing than the others!

First time posting here - any tips welcomed.

Thanks

auris gets messed up by the sun first; montfrais is north facing and pretty reliable. or head up to the glacier

should be lots of skiing in April though

Arno, sums it up, you'll be able to pick flowers in Auris late season, Montfrais usually ok and loads of skiing at higher altitude which is usually really good at Easter, you'll also be able to buy me a beer in the Potee Oz Happy

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

L'impo was pretty good last April, in fact there was a heck of a lot of good stuff about last April, the track to the Sarenne hut melts out making the return an easy walk rather than horrific traverse but watch out for the chairs back getting shut when Auris closes (about a week before AdH proper).

Sounds good - appreciate the advice. Obviously anywhere late season can be risky but good to know that all being well there should be some decent ski-ing about. All I need to do now is persuade the rest of my party to join me on the higher black runs...

if you take Marmottes III up you can access the glacier pistes without having to ski the difficult bit of the sarenne. Some nice blue/reds with fun bits in between if the snow is good
