Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Plan was to hike up to Raise from Glenridding, join the lake District Ski Club and have a day riding the poma up there.
Setting off from Glenridding

Once we got up past the Youth Hostel onto the fell itself the amount of snow on the ground was truly impressive and though the wind in the previous 24hrs had taken its toll there was still 30-40cm of soft snow in most places
Standing on a wind scoured ridge beside a runied chimney

looking towards the summit you can see the ski club hut as a dot under the ridge

Approaching the ski club itself the weather was vicious, with wind filling all pervious tracks on the final traverse. Was wishing for snowshoes on final stretch whilst breaking trail.
Ski Club poma - it was closed, D'oh!

Unfortunately the poma had become derrailled and couldn't be mended in the high wind, however the chance to come out of the cold and into the clubhouse was welcome and there was a great atmosphere with 20 or so people already there. We continued to hike to the summit of Raise and skiied down all the way from the summit to the cattlegrid on the edge of Glenridding itself. Ski down was mixture of windblown crud, boilerplate ice, deep soft powder and with a bit of rock hopping near the bottom. Was an amazing experience to get a descent of several hundred meters in the UK!!

Ah, shame about the wind. Sounds like an amazing trip anyway.
