Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

need some info about MAYRHOFEN

ello everyone,

I'm planning to spend 2 or 3 months in Mayrhofen and I want to ask you all who have been there for some advice on finding accomodation. I have tried to search on the internet but since I need accomodation for a longer period I'm having trouble to find something reasonably priced. Also, most landlords who use the internet to fill their apartments usually already have bookings and are not willing to rent it out for a longer period.

So, can you tell me if there are lots of new/recently built apartment buildings in Mayrhofen where finding an apartment while you are in the resort would be comparatively easy? I need a small apartment or a studio, but preferably self-catering one. What is a normal monthly price for a small apatment in Mayrhofen? What can a get with a budget of about 500 EUR/month? Please advise as I want to go there asap!! Smile

I don't know much about longer term lets in Mayrhofen, I only went there for a weeks holiday. It is a great resort, with a huge ski area. Have you tried contacting the local tourist office? They might be able to point you in the right direction?

One suggestion is that you go and stay in a B&B in Mayrhofen, give yourself a time limit and a price limit for the length of time/money you're willing to spend in tourist accommodation. Once you're there it will be much easier to find long term lets. There are free newspapers (Bezirks Blatt and Tirol Woche) and local internet sites ( www.heimatstimme.at) that advertise accommodation. Also, a lot of longer term lets are advertised by word of mouth. I reckon you'd be much more likely to find something if you're in the town, talking to people and asking everyone if they know of anything.

Thank you SaraJ, that was exactly the answer I was hoping to hear. My only problem is that I don't speak German.. do you think that this will make negotiating more difficult for me? I think that although most people there probably speak English, I would be in a much better position if I speak German.

snow231, Not speaking German will make it more difficult but in Mayrhofen, not impossible. Yes, the local business people prefer to do business in German, but there are enough people who speak English. Learn a few useful phrases so that you show them that you're willing to try and are not just arrogantly expecting them to talk to you in English. Maybe try making contact with some of the Resort Reps. They should be able to speak some German and be able to point you in the right direction.

snow231, As well as resort reps there quite a few British working in Mayrhofen. The Ice Bar was and maybe still is staffed by British and there are quite a few British Ski Instructors as well. I'm sure someone will be able to help.
