Poster: A snowHead

Anyone fancy heading up to scotland at the weekend. I'm thinking of drivingup from Leeds or Halifax (depending if i go straight from work) on friday getting 2 days in and then heading back on Sunday evening and I would happily pick anyone up on the way if they chip in for petrol. It cost me about £30 each way last time and could be split between however many come. It took about 5-6 hours to get to glenshee.
They've got the best snow conditions of the season so far and it's forecast to carry on snowing all week with base tempratures staying well below freezing. Obviously it would depend on if the weather changes and I'm not going if the wind (the curse of scottish skiing) is likely to be too high.

davelees215,
I was conned by the same phase "the best snow conditions of the season" and went up on Friday 25 Feb. This picture says it all.
If you want to catch snow go to Caringorm. I skied Glenshee, Caringorm and Nevis Range on 25, 26 and 27 respectively.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Picture does look bad although I've seen a few other pictures from Sunday that look better. I did a weekday afternoon at cairngorm a few weeks ago when I was working up there and it was reasonable enough at the top then and there are a lot more lifts open now. But I have to admit if any one is coming and haven't skiied scotland before don't expect the alps just enjoy having a laugh slaloming around the heather and mud and jumping off windblown lumps.

davelees215,
Wasn't my idea to scare snowheads off the Scottish resorts. Just trying to be factual here.
While I was in Glenshee I met a father and son team. They came up from Nottingham too. Took them 7 hours each leg. They said it was still worth the effort and had been doing the same trip regularly.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

davelees215, Don't worry about the conditions in Glenshee. If you know where to look they're really quite good. Yes, some of the sunny side pistes have brown patches, but the majority of runs are full width and offer good skiing. Definitly on the hard side though so sharpen your edges. Sunday softened up quite nicely making the off-piste on the Carn Aosda and Glas Maol very nice indeed.
I know exactly what you mean about the wind though. I'm sure on Saturday the actual Jet Stream had come down to visit...

Must be better than normal if you can ski off piste. So come on people, come on up for the weekend and make up the numbers.
I live in Leeds by the way as I moved from Nottingham and don't know how to change my location on this site, but I'll pick up anyone who wants to head up from Yorkshire or above.

davelees215, I live and work in Halifax so I would have loved to have come - but I'm up to my eyes this weekend so couldn't sneak off.
It's still snowing though, so it should be a great weekend.
