Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I was given some of these to test a while back and had forgotten about them until this recent cold snap. Now I've been using them on the bottom of my Scarpa Mantas to try and get some grip on the snow and ice that lays about.

They're made of rubber in a diamond pattern (like chains) with some springy metal wound round them. You just stretch them over the soles of your shoes / boots and then there's a velcro strap over the top to hold things tight. The spring bites into the snow and ice and the rubber on your soles.

Well, they seem to work excellently! There's loads of grip, even on the icy bits where the cars have compressed the snow, and they don't seem to get clogged up when I walk on snow. I've not tried them in ernest on ski boots but I'm sure they'd work. They also fold up quite small and weigh only 75g each so they'd be fine for popping in a day sack - very handy if there's a long walk from the piste.

Just bought a pair of the Walker version. I see they also do them for ski boots now. Over the last few weeks in Snowdonia they have been selling like hot cakes! They must be good!

Funnily enough, I was just talking to a neighbour about them this afternoon. A friend of her's has the same ones. I've been using mine in earnest over the last few days and they've been excellent.
