Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

How much do my skis weigh ...?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Now that the carriers are getting shirty about weight in bags, and i'm about to pack both mine and my wife's skis in eth same bag this year, i'd like to know how much they weigh before mr cheapo-carrier tells me at check-in that they wany another ££££££ for excess baggage

So i thought i'd weigh them in advance ....

Anyway, we won;t be making cakes very accurately any more in our house ..... Toofy Grin

and we dont have grown up scales in our house

So - how much does a pair of rossi 9s weigh (162s) (2003 model) ?

Anyone know where i can find some technical specs ??

Or some creative ways of estimating - anyone know the density of wood and steel ??

sev112, do you have scales at home?

If so:

1)Step on with packed ski bag and note the weight.

2)Step on without the ski bag and note the weight.

3)Subtract 2 from 1 Wink

arv, You've got this the wrong way round. You step on the scales without the ski bag first. Only then do you pick up the bag rolling eyes I should know: I weighed my skis yesterday. Cool

Reminds me of those school fetes, where you're asked to guess the weight of a cake.
I don't know.

sev112, Have you got a Wii Fit ? They can be used for weighing providing you hold the skis.

Alternatively, they sometimes have scales in branches of Boots.

I was looking at this the other day - most skis seem to be around 4kg a pair give or take 1kg. So two pairs plus poles should be around 10kg (Jet2 limit ski bags to 20kg so at least you get some capacity for your £40 return!)

We fly with 2 pairs of skis in one bag. My husband has a knack of 'hovering' the bag over the scales at check in so they weigh less.

kewhoward, sev112, don't forget the weight of the bindings as well - allow about 2-3kg for those.

http://www.epicski.com/forum/thread/82438/alpine-ski-and-binding-weight-thread appears as if it may have some useful info.

GrahamN, Dammit your right snowHead - looks like they vary between 1kg and 2.5 kg per pair making up to around 15kg for two pairs of skis, bindings and poles - perhaps not so much leeway on the 20kg bag limit on Jet2 as I'd thought but should still be well under.

If it helps - my 2 pairs of K2s, 2 pairs of poles and a Ski tube weighs 19.5kg!

marksovereign, Excellent if your allowance is 20kg. I'm guessing that skitube weighs a couple of kilos...

I managed to get 2 pairs of skis (one set being Rossi 9S), 1 pair ski boots, 1 pair Scarpa mountain boots, ski jacket and trousers, a shovel and probe, and a pair of gloves all in a wheely bag.
Grand total 29Kg
Girl behind the desk raised her eyebrows and spilt the weight between our group
Hope this helps you estimate
