Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Is there an alternative to St Anton

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi all

Have flights only booked for this weekend to Memmingen for a week of cheap DIY skiing hence no accommodation booked, so free to go wherever. It looks like I may now be going on my own, (long story, work etc)

I'm a competent snowboarder, and love to put up the miles.

Been to St Anton / Lech for a couple of long weekends and love it it no end,(also done Isghl & Kitzbuhel) however is there an alternative in that area in terms of area, difficultly and accessibility via train.

Thanks in advance

Schladming is excellent. Saalbach-Hinterglemm is also a great ski area. Neither equate to St Anton, but you'd enjoy the experience. Not sure about train accessibility for either of those.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

mochal, not sure what you mean by 'in that area'. Nothing that I can think of equates to St Anton in Austria. I suppose the nearest approximation in Europe is Verbier.

Achilles basing decision on transferring via train or bus from a local German airport to west Austrian / East Swiss area.
Not sure need all St Anton has to offer, if going it alone. (Could spoil its mystic)
May consider Laax as next best.

Solden, not quite the same off piste but great snowboard piste terrain with loads of inter-linked adjacent pistes to catch some pow (seeing as you are on your own maybe). Cheaper than St Anton but just as much fun and on the same rail link. Very Happy

Zillertal Valley where the steepest "groomed" run can be found in Mayrhofen. The valley has 5 to 6 unlinked areas totalling 560km piste.
