Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Went to La Ros a couple of times a few years back. Someone who knows it better will probably be along shortly, but you're right, from what i recall it's a pretty quiet resort.

We always ended up in a place that was called McKinley's - right at the foot of the main slope (Tetras I think) - decently priced Happy Hour for a few apres drinks. Not exactly lively though!

It has been a couple of years since we were there (Jan 2008). We found La Rosiere a rather low key kind of place for apres ski. We ended up in McKinley's more times than not simply for the fire (we had fantastic snow but also high winds and freezing conditions) and the happy hour cocktails/beers. It was rather tame. They do FANTASTIC take out pizza though. There is the Petit Danoise which is a sister bar to the one in Val d'Isere. That was higher up in the town in the top floor of a two story indoor shopping centre (sounds odd I know but the shopping centre has a great cheese shop and a wonderful boulangerie on the ground floor as well as a super market and the usual ski shops). The Petit Danoise had a couple of pool tables as the centre piece of the bar. We sheltered here when snow and winds shut the lifts and had a good lunch in a relaxed atmosphere.

we ate at the petit danoise for lunch once or twice and they had a live band on when we went along one evening and the place was heaving and good fun

There used to be a pretty good Rolling Stones tribute band that played regularly at Petit Danois IIRC (seems I do!).....

....from a similar thread:

whilst La Rosiere hasn't got a mad apres scene, there's enough to do, there are often gigs at the Petit Danois, there's a very good Rolling Stones tribute band who play around the Tarentaise resorts, Le Pub has a disco, resident DJ etc. Arpin's Bar is good for Karioke, especially if you like Jonny Halliday! Le Mac Kinley is good for drinks after skiing with a happy hour from 5-6 pm, the Petit Danois seems to be the in place for seasanaires, BarClays for a more sophisticated ambience, it's a piano bar and finally Willy's bar, the best little bar in the village. So you can kick off straight after skiing and not get home until 4-5 AM if you're so inclined. The other great point is that because the village is fairly compact just about everywhere is within staggering distance and most of the accomodation is downhill from the centre.

gav_in59, There are a few new bars that have opened in Les Echerts but by and large the quote Chasseur posted has all the info you need. MacKinleys is good for a drink immediately after skiing, it's located right by the main lift in the village centre and has a happy hour from 5.00PM. Petit Danois is good for an evening out but Barclays has become the apres-ski bar of choice. The good news is that Petit Danois, Le Pub, Barclays and Arpin's Bar are all loctaed in Centre Commercial right in the middle of tye village so you don't have far to stagger to visit them all.

I came back from La Ros yesterday. Bar Fusion in the town is okay and as above MacKinleys is alright. Must admit we didn't stay in either until late though as we were with the kids.

Gosh yes, must have had a few last night to have forgotten to mention the live bands in the Petit Danois Embarassed . Thought Le Pub was pretty bad in comparison (no don't shoot me down Snowheads for this opinion)....

On the whole they were good, certainly plenty of snow. Spent one afternoon getting soaked and a morning of drizzle / sleet and one morning bitter cold (too cold to take the kids up the top, we did and had to bring them straight back down again). Plenty of powder though and most runs and lifts were open, could hear lots of avalanche blasting as well, didn't seem to affect us though.
