Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Geneva to Chatel Transfer Info

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi All, my first posting on the site although have spent plenty of time browsing.
I am going out to meet up with friends in Chatel on 1st January, and can not find a transfer for less than 150 Euros, being a student in the normal financial straights (really shouldn't have bought that 2nd pair of skis) I'm trying to find a cheaper alternative. Has anyone had any luck going to the arrivals drop off area and trying to get a cheap lift back with a transfer taxi dropping passengers at the airport? As I don't arrive until 5pm I don't want to hang around too long as it looks like it will be the train to Monthey and taxi from there which takes a fair old time. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Max28, this is pure guesswork but I think 2 Jan (Saturday) would be a much busier transfer day than New Year's Day. And you're seeking a transfer pretty late in the day. Your most economical solution might be to find a cheap bed (hostel) in Geneva for the night and take a public bus the following day.

Max28, suggest a call to a Chatel taxi company. See if they have anyone already at the airport after a drop off (for which they'll have received the full fare). Offer beer money, plead poverty etc. You never know.

Cheers for the suggestions. Think I'm sorted now, turns out my friend's brother will still be there and is insured to drive the 4WD their parents keep out there and he's offered to drive to the airport to collect me! Even with petrol money and a few beers for him in the evening it will still be less than a booked transfer and a lot faster than the train.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.
