Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I'm just booking my ski's online, need to know the sole length. would that be 27.5 (or 275mm) (UK size 9) as that's the only unknown number on 'em!

I'm a UK 9 and my boots are 325mm, 27.5 sounds like the size of the liner and your boots will be longer than those! (27.5 mondo is 8.5 to 9 ish according to the conversion chart I found) On my boots the length is stamped on the side of the heel

Ah! Can't find a sensible looking number, but have measured 315mm across the bottom of the sole, end to end. Sound right?

You need to look for the number moulded into the plastic near the heel. The length will be in millimetres and is not to be confused with the Mondo size which is usually quoted in centimetres and is roughly the length of your foot.

Failing that, measure the total length of your boot from the from the front of the toe lip to the back of the heel one.

I had a pair in my hands recently and it was imprinted into a recess on the underside of the sole. You are looking for that value in mm as quoted above of around the order 300 +-

Scarpa, Very Happy Very Happy It's very, very nice to finally be able to start giving something back - there are many on here who have never stinted to write to me when I asked, its only fair that I take my turn on the wheel if I think I have something of value to offer. However, you are correct, I can't believe how much I have learned Very Happy Lots of innane questions, and lots of reading of answers I guess something had to start to gel in the finish Laughing

martinm, I expect that will be close enough to book hire skis with. Most hire skis have some degree of movement in binding length so providing you give them a measurement that falls within their various ranges of binding movement that should get you a suitable pair in store for final adjustments. I don't know if you've hired before, but if not don't forget to take a boot with you when you pick them up so that the bindings can be adjusted for you - you will also need to know what you weigh and what sort of skier you are if you don't already know what your bindings should be set on. Apologies if you already know this, but it would save you a trip minus a boot if you didn't - have fun when you go Very Happy

Yeah - hired a few times, but never prebooked online and been asked for the length before!

They (Ski Republic) ask for age, weight, height and level too, so should be all setup and ready to go.

martinm, If that's who you are going with check the quality of the skis they hand you to make sure that they are what you are expecting, if the skis look OK then check the setup before you go off with them. We had a bad experience with them when they didn't provide kit that was up to the spec ordered.

Will do. I've booked a specific model (Salomon Tornado X-Wing ), so as long as they're in decent condition and waxed I'll be happy.
