Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Munich-Garmisch Daily Commute. I need a hotel at Munich Station

Hi I m not really sure where I should have posted this message -and I've probably put this on the wrong site- I've already posted this on one of the other Snowheads forumsBTW. My problem is that there are six of us - five of whom are really set on skiing in Garmisch. My OH is a shopaholic so I reckon she'll spend her time window shopping in Munich Basically we cant find accommodation in Garmisch (26th-30th December) so our plan is to commute each morning from Munich by train.Does this make sense Can anyone recommend a family friendly hotel close to munich's main railway station.Would there be a hotel with a pool/spa close by??? (We have two kids 10/14 years old)Many Thanks

sagittarius100, not a good journey to try for a commute, it's bloody miles. I can't suggest any hotels in particular but I can recommend the S-Bahn for getting about. Means you could stay a little way out of town, your OH get into the city and you will have a much shorter drive (you REALLY don't want to be driving from the city centre to GP every day).

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks for the quick reply Andyph. We are planning to take the train using that Bayern Ticket that can take five people. (sounds like terrific value) Our problem is that we simply cant find accommodation in GP and we dont really mind the travel time (it'll definitely get us out of the bed in the morning!!) The only thing we really need is a good hotel close to Munich station. Cheers

sagittarius100, how much do you want to spend? are we talking 4/5 star? if so either the Le Meridien or the Sofitel Bayerpost are right outside the Hauptbahnhof.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

sagittarius100, you are better off staying in Garmisch as she can window shop there to her heart's delight. The shops close here in Bavaria at 12:00 midday tomorrow and stay closed until next Monday. The chances of shops being open are better in a ski resort than in the city.

The type of hotels you seem to need (spa, swimming pool etc) are not found in close proximity to the Hauptbahnhof to be honest. They are mostly pricey business hotels or cheap overnighters for travellers. Maybe a deal will be available as business more or less shuts down here until after the 6th January.

You could try some of the towns along the route - Murnau, Weilheim, Starnberg, etc., but to be honest it is an awful slog for the skiers, even using the Schöne Bayern tickets (you know they are more expensive at the weekends don't you?). I know the tickets are good value but that is a hell of a sacrifice for one person!

Sue wink

sagittarius100, Would you be better off going to somewhere like Kitzubhel and staying en-masse there - some nice shops there and it's not that from Munich. Although to be honest given your dates - I would doubt you would find any accommodation for those dates without paying €€€€
