Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all. I'll be in Morzine (by the Nyon Cable) with a small group of early intermediates/beginners in mid Jan. We're only there for a long weekend and would be grateful for a few recommendations on where we should ski to save time when we arrive in resort.
The intermediates would like some cruisey blues and reds to shake out the early rust and the beginners need some nursery slopes. We don't want to find ourselves peering down a moguled wall having taken a wrong turn!
I'd welcome any thoughts from the Morzine experts.
Thanks

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

godthatssteep, up Nyon cable car, head over to the Chavannes bowl above les Gets. Avoid: l'Aigle/Pointe de Nyon, Chamossiere, Chery Nord (all 3 have only red or black runs off them).
Everything else is pretty innocuous. Might not be enough in that for a long weekend (although there's quite a lot) so as alternative shuttle bus to Super Morzine (or maybe better, if there's a direct bus) to Prodains to get into Avoriaz and the PDS "proper".
Lunch at "Chez Nannon" on Nyon plateau if the weather's crap and the slopes empty. Have the "Patates au Reblochon" (oddly enough, that's potatoes robed in reblochon cheese). Don't drink too much of his poire.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

godthatssteep, The super morzine area, below Avoriaz, has some very easy slopes. Also the blues on Pleney, above Morzine, and the slopes at the top of Chavannes in Les Gets are great beginner areas.
For the more experienced people, the runs in the main Les Gets bowl would be good for re-discovering the ski legs. Then maybe try the stuff up at Avoriaz; Lindarets, Fornet Bowl, etc.

under a new name, oh, yeah, i forgot, there are some nice easy runs on Pleney, just avoid the red to the immediate skier's right of the top station. We used to use the top pitch to grade our clients for guiding groups - usually, "the ones who could" or "the ones who collapsed in heaps of tears". Very effective.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.
