 Poster: A snowHead

Hi all can people please give me a review on the above ski in 163cm for my lady friend that is coming skiing with us in january.
She is 5"8 and ( i would say about 60kg but feel rude asking) she has about 16 weeks skiing under her belt, has her own boots but not ski's.
I would place her in the higher intermediate will ski blacks ok and dabbles off piste if conditions permit.
So any advice please

Where are you going? These really are powder skis and the length sounds OK for her. If she's only an intermediate though I would question her ability to carve these on a piste... although I have heard they're easy to handle.

Alexandra, sorry I cant give a better description of her style she defo needs to be able to use on piste as only will be off-piste if snow conditions are right,
thats why im asking on here hoping someone will say how they deal on piste with with hard pack and ice on piste on a cold morning?

aw-hicks, I wanted to test some in Zermatt last year, but no joy on availability. Others of similar performance type I did test were, Movement Black Rose and Scott Crusade. I think the Aura might be a bit of a handful on piste, unless the user is pretty experienced.
For more of an all round ski the Scott Sheela might be worth a try, or the Fischer Koa 84. I tried the Watea (mens version) in 176, and it was very stable on indoor snow, though I would have got the shorter length working harder!
I'm 5'4, 66kg, I have done more skiing weeks than your friend.

Having owned Volkl Auras I would say 163 is rather short. They ski short and would suggest 170 is a better length. I`m 5`4" and rode the 170

susieski, I've heard too that these ski short, however she's very light and not very experienced. 
aw-hicks, What about something more mid-fat? Tbh most of the ladies I know with Auras are skiing them in Colorado and they're part of a quiver. I myself for example am "getting by" on a one-ski-quiver which is the Head iM 82, a mid-fat which will handle powder, but if it's a 3' dump (ha!) then I can hire something specifically for the day in question. I think Auras are great... but as I'm based in mainland europe and have to pay to fly my skis anyway I can't afford to have a pair for every eventuality I might encounter on holiday.

I would agree withAlexandra, that a mid fat might be the way to go. Depending on what your friend has been using ie. carvers , fatties take some getting used to and although the Aura is a great ski it does work better in powder. If you are only skiing for a week in Europe where conditions are variable , I too would suggest something like the IM82 or a Watea /Koa 84 both of which will be excellent and work well in powder for a lighter person.
