Latest-closing resort I've seen this year is Zermatt - May 2nd.
Is there anywhere European other than the year-round glaciers that has a season that goes beyond that date?

Obviously a key concern of mine would be to avoid the EoSBers.

Sorry, me again.
Do any Val T fans happen to know whether that late opening includes* the Orelle bit?
*is likely to include, usually includes, included last year, whatever. I know you can't actually see into the future (unlike me).

Haha, excellent idea!
Thanks everyone so far. If this thread proves anything at all, it's this: I had done insufficient research of my own before posting.

Yes pretty sure it does. I've skied there a couple of times on the last Sunday and from memory everything was open.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Grands montets is open and has the "water slide" which is good fun. Also Aiguille du midi is open and the Vallee Blanche was excellent on the last weekend of 2009 season.

La Grave might still be open for a week then, depends on the snow cover mainly, I'd imagine if you can get most of the way to P1 it will be open.

You know it makes sense.

Whistler has a good chance of being open for a looooong season .

Thanks to everyone.
I'd love to be good enough to do La Grave, but I'm not.
Whistler's too far and there are Visa issues.
Must investigate Engelberg.
Val T, staying in Orelle: favourite so far.

alti - dude, Orelle's, er, been mentioned already.
Sierra Nevada is easily in my top 5 places I want to go. I bet it won't stay open like that this year though.

Riksgransen in the Swedish Arctic Circle: Non-glacier, small area but excellent. The off piste is like a big Glencoe with everything from rocky gullies to cliffs......
It stays open into June for skiing until midnight in the 24 hour daylight. Good value heli-skiing (which also goes through the night!) too.
