What a great story that video tells and it's somewhere else I have to visit this winter too. I looked at the ski club's web page and saw the walk in ...

... so I checked on my own map software and got 2.4 km and about 450 metres of vertical from hut to car park. Is there is a good ski back to the car if the snow cover allows it ?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Ross, in good conditions you can ski from patch to patch down to about the top of the zig zags, just above where the legend indicates Mine (dis). In really good conditions I have skied back to the car via keppel Cove. Alternatively some members walk up from Thirlmere and that can be a good ski back that way, west of Sticks Pass.
On friday the snow was down to about 2,200', (700m). looked like a good early season day:

Loved it. I've yet to ski in the UK (it doesn't help that we don't tend to get snow in this part of the UK at all )

Peter S, thank you! That's brilliant. Had a few great days on Raise, driving up from Market Drayton and back home again in a day - not least the day you turned up and were leaping the snow fences on your telemarks. A bit out of my orbit now, though, living as i do in the Sithe. Bernie is some sort of a legend. It's worth ringing the snowline even if you have no intention of going up. "Three members enjoyed champeeyne powwwderr on Reese todeh" and other gems. Fantastic.
