Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where to ski when in Kappl?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Heading off to Kappl with wife and 3 kids (6 9 and 12) on 2nd Jan. The youngest will have had 2 weeks skiing under his belt and the older two 4 weeks. According to Glasgow Ski Centre (dry slope) the youngest is Intermediate Advanced level 1 and the other two Advanced level 1.

My mate was in Ischgl earlier this year and raved about the long run(s) into Kappl. Obviously I can't see ourselves staying around Kappl for the whole week but wondered where else would be good for all of us to ski? Having looked at the webcams earlier of Ischgl, the Idalp (?spelling) does look ideal, although I have heard that the runs back into Ischgl can get crowded and difficult in places. That said my youngest did ski all the way from Stuben to the Mooserwirt on his third day of skiing this year Very Happy , albeit completely knackered at the end of it - (c. 5km) and down the infamous happy valley run in St Anton, so I'm kinda guessing that if he can cope with that he should be able to cope with a lot. I am conscious that I don't want to scare the little begger and put him off skiing for life.

boabski, Ischgl is great to ski and there is plenty of straightforward skiing. The main problem with the runs back to resort is at the end of the day they get very crowded and worn. If they can cope with reds thay should not have too much trouble with the runs down to Ischgl if taken before about 2-30, but they really do change a lot in character after that and certainly for a tiring child I would recommend downloading at the end of the day.

Galtur at the head of the valley is a really beautiful area to ski for a day but it si north facing and is noticeably considerably colder than either Ischgl or Kappl. I have not skied See it looks good but I think there are a few tows.

Go down valley to "See" . Nice and quiet great area & one of the steepest pistes in Austria.

boabski, The area around Idalpe has plenty of blues and not too challenging reds. They are wide and above the tree line so should be ideal I'd echo other thoughts about the runs into the village. From 4:00 pm its pretty much mayhem. Too many people, too many inexperienced people to boot, significant differences in snow temperature due to parts being open to the sun and others in constant shade, some steep pitches and pretty long for a small child.
