Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Can anyone recommend any for me?

Very Happy

Why do I see a lot of silk inners on ebay etc? Are silk ones the best type?

Merino wool liners are pretty good too (and don't get holes in them as frequently).

They sell silky ones in Decathlon. I've never used them for skiing as my mittens are really warm, but I do use them under motorbike gloves.

Yep, I've got some effette little merino numbers made by Icebreaker. Very poofy, but they work nicely.

I've used silk but didn't find them much use. If your hands are really cold mitts are the answer. I wear gloves but take a pair of mitts with me as spares and put them on if is really cold.

v1cky24, all the comments above have their merit, but I use the cheapest I can find as then you can treat them as ( fairly ) disposable. I got some yesterday from my local Cotswold Outdoor shop for £5.95 whereas I think the Merino type ones were £20 odd.

Thanks for the info.

I have a pair of mittens but my hands were still cold last year. My 'inner' glove was a cheap £1.50 pair of magic stretch gloves from H&M and they just didn't cut it.

Laughing

I'll pay the money to avoid the pain this time I think!!

v1cky24, I also find that you can increase the warmth in your hands by reaching inside your jacket for the hip flask wink

Merino glove liners are really expensive but last several times longer than silk ones.

Perhaps if wrapping your hands in tin foil would help? wink

Mittens don't work for me either. I'm going to see if gore-tex xcr gloves help (to keep the damp out). Gore-tex (non-xcr) gloves are only ok to a point, so I shall see if the extra 3 letters do the trick!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I don't suffer from cold hands persay, I wear glove liners because I seem to be constantly faffing on lifts ( camera, piste map, hip flask, cigarettes etc ) with my 'main' gloves off... Laughing

Timberwolf, same here - I'm chief faffer, photographer and nose blower when on the chair lift (I don't have a hip flask though... or cigarettes for that matter).

It'd be great if my other half was the photographer but he's too busy "skiing" to want to stop and take photos to remember how great the holiday was. rolling eyes He appreciates the photos when we get home though! snowHead

 You know it makes sense.

I use silk liners (Slush & Rubble's own brand I think) and get on pretty well with them. The only issue I find is that they tend to get caught on velcro (and lets face it, skiing tends to involve a lot of velcro!). It means they quickly got ladders and pulled threads, so whilst they still do the job, they certainly don't look all that great any more.
