Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

boardiac, unfortunately it seems the Valais didn't get much in the snow falls of the last couple of days http://www.slf.ch/lawineninfo/schneeinfo/hn1/index_EN

Snow depths look very bad compared to previous years http://www.skiclub.co.uk/skiclub/snowreports/snowreport.aspx/Zermatt

But the webcams look pretty good. http://www.ski-zermatt.com/features/zermatt-live-cams.html

The volume of snow on that roof in the Findeln pic is usually quite a good indication.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I am in Zermatt and have been here for the last few days. There's been no new snow to speak of in the valley, but there has been up to 5cm or so of fresh snow on the Swiss side of the mountains and about 10cm on the italian side.

The conditions on piste are generally very good. I'd describe them as excellent higher up, with the lower runs getting a bit hard and slightly icy in places. They're in a state that experienced/good skiers would describe as 'hard and fast', but an intermediate skier might describe as 'icy and hard to stop'. Almost all lifts/slopes are open. The last few days have seen the clouds come in, and the light becoming flat, but unfortunately it's not brought with it any notable amounts of snow.

Yesterday there was still plenty of fresh tracks to be found in the Italian side, but on the Swiss side today the off-piste is now pretty tracked and hardening.

The base is starting to look a bit thin in places, especially on exposed slopes. The off-piste needs fresh snow to cover rocks, and the many of the lower slopes are being maintained with artificial cover. Many of the ski routes that looked attractive 3 days ago, now have rocks showing and the snow hardening.

The resort is not crowded at the moment, I've not had to queue for a lift all week, and on the Italian side it was positively quiet (e.g. only about 1 in 3 chairs had anybody on it).

Providing the weather stays cold, then then resort will be fine for the next week or so, but new snow would help.

We had 4-6 inches of fresh on 23rd December which finished at 11am, an hour before our wedding, thank you Zermatt for even thinking of that!
