Poster: A snowHead

You guys have come up trumps for me so many times but this time it is a biggy for me and you......
I have flights booked for myself and my 10 year old ski freak son James to Geneva for the 12th of December. Looking at forecasts the 3Vs which was our original destination is looking like a no go. Italy and Austria seem to have the snow. We love the dolomites, is Arabba, Val G too far from Geneva or should we head for somewhere closer.
Help please.............!!

Armitageblue, panic not. It looks as though the 3V could get a decent amount of snow before the 12th December.

Armitageblue, bear in mind that a lot of places won't be opening fully until 19 December. I would guess 3 Valleys might have more open than Chamonix? e.g. Brevent/flegere opening 19 December. Les Houches? Le Tour? Personally I think I'd be inclined to head for Val Thorens.

Fair comment pam.
have given a deposit for Allues? which is lower than Meribel so it could possibly mean driving to VT each day to ski so was thinking for possibly a days less skiing to be based in one resort (not as ugly as VT) for 5/6 days? I have stayed in VT before.

Armitageblue, it would be good to get advice from someone who knows the 3V better than I do, but from Allues you can ride gondolas can't you, further up the Valley? It would be a bit of a drive round to VT. In mid-December, though, given the present state of the weather, I think I'd prefer to go for good snow than architecture.
