Poster: A snowHead

Hi, I'm new to the forum.
Looking to buy some Line Prophet 100 skis (or similar) but I'm not sure to get them here in Aberdeen (about £450 with bindings) or out in Chamonix.
I am heading out there for the season by car next month so wouldn't have to worry about carriage costs but the exchange rate is worrying me slightly and I don't know what the prices will be like at the start of the season e.g. no sales on yet.
Any ideas?
Cheers
James

Probably cheaper in the UK - Don't know which store in CHX stocks Lines but must be one.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks for the welcome
No they dont have to be new, good condition used would be ok.
I had a look at the for sale section but all I could find was some Prophet 90s which have sold anyway.
Cheers

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

As you're out there for the season - and won't have to worry about losing the odd hour or two in a shop - I'd say get them in resort. Simple reason - you can demo several pairs and see what actually works for you, rather than what you think will work for you.

Thanks for the advice. Still not made my mind up, probably going to buy skis out in Chamonix unless a good deal comes up here. I'll have my board anyway so no panic.

Unless there is some amazing deal over there, buying here is the best bet given the current exchange rate.

jamesn8, I'd have thought you'd have more chance of getting something similar in Cham for a better price. And you can probably try them to ensure you like them...

Yeah, I don't think there will be much difference in the price. I’m thinking I will just try out a few sets out there. I quite fancy trying rockered skis to see if I like them, something like the K2 Obsethed.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Last season skis in Austria were £100/£200 more than the UK. I expect the difference will have decreased, but still be noticeable.
BTW, any good ski shops in Aberdeen? I'm at uni up here, and Craigdon Mountain Sports was the only one I could find.

Craigdons probably the best one to be honest. There's Nevis Sport just round the corner on George Street, they don't have too many skis but if you look on their website they will order stuff in for you from Aviemore/Perth shops etc. Granite Reef has a small selection of twin tip skis but they deal mostly with snowboard stuff. You also have Borderline behind M&S for more snowboard gear.
