Poster: A snowHead

Now that I've decided on Colorado (poss Winter Park) in March 2010, any suggestions regarding accomodation for the single skier? On-line all I can find are huge apartments priced for 4 or more people. Do they not do simple bed and breakfast in American ski resorts? Help please!

pivotal62, you would be better to look at booking direct - uk tour ops will *ALWAYS* charge massive supplements.

Several years ago I looked for something similar. The US doesn't really seem to do small. It's hard to find anything and B&B's don't seem to be popular, unlike in Canada.
It may be worth looking for hostel type places that might have dorms. I stayed in one in Park City in early 90's. They are nothing like what you might think hostels could be.
Just found the place I stayed in a dorm. http://www.chateauapres.com/ $40 per night.
Good luck

Infact the first search I did for 'colorado ski dorm' found this....

Looks a decent enough place, but it depends what sort of standard you are after.
Also, as the Americans usually only have short breaks you may well get a better price for longer stays?

You'll need to Register first of course.

Try looking at motels - price is usually for a room, not for the number of people in a room.

pivotal62,
We stay in WP every year (going again JAN) for long stay so know it well. Email EVERYONE you can for their best price; take no notice of advertised rates. Email shot owners on VRBO (vacation rental by owner) especially HIGH COUNTRY HAUS condo owners.
Rooms are generally empty all week and fill up at weekends. Also check your dates don't coincide with a major (like JFK day) holiday.
You could try VIKING LODGE Right ON the bus stop downtown, cosy and very convenient.
Also try Fraser, longer bus ride but a bit cheaper.
Don`t be afraid to get quotes from slope side accommodation. Will be more $$ but there is such a glut of acc. and many are underused.
For more BB`s look on WP resort site and it will give you a list.

Depending on where you want to ski and your attitude towards driving everyday you can do worse than get a motel in Frisco/Dillon which gives you access to Breck, Keystone, Copper and a bit further away Loveland/WP and Vail/Beaver Creek.

I'd second Martin Bell with the fireside inn, I spent a lovely 2 weeks there this spring. I know it's not Winter Park (it's Breck), but there's a bus-stop right outside and a free bus system from there which includes Keystone and A-basin. You can also arrange rides to Vail, Copper and Beaver Creek door-to-door but you'll have to pay for those.

You know it makes sense.

pivotal62,
I've stayed at the Winter Park Mountain Lodge (http://www.winterparkhotel.com/) in WP as a single skier.
Just across the highway from the resort base (but you still need to get the ski bus) and they have a microbrew bar

I haven't stayed at above establishment, but know that it is one of the few hostel/dormitory type facilities in that part of Colorado and seems to have a respectable reputation for the low budget category. We don't do single traveler accommodations very well in America. Several lodges at Alta, Utah are known for offering convenient accommodations of this type.
