Poster: A snowHead
|
I've got some highly expensive mittens which I've not worn skiing yet (Hestra I think but I can't remember to be honest as I bought them months ago) and as I suffer very badly from raynauds', I want to be sure I have the right liners. I've got some silk liner gloves, but was thinking that surely the point of mittens is that the heat transfers between the fingers (being kept close together rather than separate). I've obviously invested in some heat pads to pop inside the mitts, but wondering what else would be useful?
I'm also wondering about merino glove liners (even though I am allergic to wool, I'd rather have itchy hands than freeze), would these be better than or additional to silk liners?
Any advice would be gratefully received, thanks.

Im sure liners and mitts will work great. I use 'Extremities' liners and have only had cold hands once, and that's because i was only wearing the fleece liners from my gloves on top of them.
Try another set of liners on for sure but remember you need some air spaces in the glove to trap warm air. Something you should have plenty of in the mitts

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Look for a synthetic alternative to merino if your allergic. Mitts are fine, loads of people use them for the coldest days. Plus plenty of room to get those hand warmers in!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

NSB1977, if you've already got silk liners I wouldn't bother with Merino. Merino might be a shade warmer but there's not much in it and with the heat pads your hands will be toasty.

Strangely, my feet have never been cold skiing. I checked out which brand my gloves are- black diamond, and they already have removable fleecy inners. so I will hopefully be okay with a silk liner plus a heat pad. If not I'll be coming back to you Dan! Where can you get heated hats from madmole?
