Not my favourite ski mag - and not one I get a choice of buying - it just comes with the SCGB membership, at a net cost of a bit short of £5 per sub per year. My family - who were members till recently - don't like it.
But that may just be me. I like the more passionate/philosophical feel of mags like Fall Line & Singletrack. And Fall line seems more practically useful too (even if they seem unaware that there is an airport in JH... )
Laying on one side the past antipathy for the SCGB sometimes manifest here - I would be very interested in peoples calm but honest views about why they do/don't buy it from the newstand, or what you do or do not like about it. At the moment one could argue that the relatively small newstand sales do not provide much feedback.

Tedious gear porn for the most part. Why do I want to pay for a load of glossy advertising?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Only old people buy paper magazines now.

Was happy to thumb through it when I was a member but wouldn't buy it. I found some of the articles amateurish and too many glossy pics of people doing clever/brave things.
If I buy a mag now, it's Fall Line.

stoatsbrother, Like you I get every edition as a Ski Club member. I'm not a great fan of any ski (or any other) magazines, I don't believe they really give good value for money. However up until the start of last winter I used to quite enjoy reading S&B. In the last 18 months it really seems to have deterorated though. This year it hardly seems worth reading at all. 50% of it must be advertorials and the rest of the articles aren't particularly inspiriing. Last month I bought Fall Line also to help my daughter with a school project, it really was an awful lot better.

stoatsbrother, What is it? A ski magazine? A club magazine? The club newsletter? An advertorial in flight style magazine? No one really knows do they? Imho it should be a club newsletter first a ski industry newsletter second and carry pertinent advertising to club members.

I see no reason to buy it.
When I have flicked through copies, it doesn't really appear any different to DMS&S, and the main reason I ever bought that was for the competitions. The articles all sem the same after a couple of copies.
Since both of those now have their competitions available on-line to anybody, I no longer buy either magazine.
The only ski magazine I do buy regularly is Fall Line.

Having bought Dark Summer, Ski & Board and the DMS&S - I much prefer the latter of the 3.
I think my least favourite is the ski and board - I think it was too much advertism and just not my cup of tea.
The articles did not interest me, but as other have said, a lot of it was ads. But I suppose they have to make money from ads too...
But yeah, I bought one last month and then realised it was the one I stopped buying because I didn't like it!

I'll flick through it in Smiths but have never bought a copy because of the above. There seem to be some good fairly serious and straight articles in there that don't dumb it down to DMSS levels or hip it up to Fallline's 24 hours on the lager in the pow levels but why would anyone pay in store for a magzine that's basically an extended ad for a club they aren't part of?

Likewise, when I can find any. This season must be THE worst I have ever known for availability of ski/board mags on the news stands. Got several big Smiths round here and in some there are no snow magazines at all. Believe me, that doesn't mean they've sold out, it means that nobody is buying them and the stores deciding it isn't worth stocking them. Surely everything has moved online. This very forum is probably becoming THE source of information. Do any kind of search on any snowy topic and Snowheads will be sitting there high up the results page. Mags just can't compete.

You know it makes sense.

Cheltenham WHS has most of them - more snowboard mags than ski, but all the main ones of both genres and mixed.

Agreed, but once here I would guess most first timers are turned away by the difficulty in searching. Perhaps a search tutorial needs to be written and given some real prominence.
