Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Opinion about Cohennoz

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Dear all
I am looking for any opinion about how is it like the area of Cohennoz/Crest Voland. How is it the skiing like over there? I have got two teenagers sons (13 and 15), intermediates. Would they enjoy skiing there? Is it snow reliable?

Thank you for any comments

The skiing in Espace Diamant is great, I've skied all over Europe and done most of the major French areas and Espace Diamant is as good as any of them. Crest Voland / Cohennoz is at one end with Les Saisies, the runs aren't massively long but they're great intermediate slopes for hammering around like a lunatic. Les Saisies is the same while at the other end Praz Sur Arly is about as steep a resort as you'll find anywhere so it presents a completely different challenge.

Cohennoz and Les Saisies have a pretty good amount of fast lifts but a lot of the rest of it has plenty of slow lifts and a lot of drags. Normally I'd hate that but here its part of the charm somehow so don't be put off by it. If you fancy driving you can also get to Megeve in 20 mins or so as well.

On the flip side there appears to be literally nothing to do at night, we've always stayed in Megeve when we've skied there but from what I saw there was very little in any of the villages of Espace Diamant.

Overall I'd massively recommend it but I'd probably stay in Megeve and ski Espace Diamant.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

depends what you want, I suppose. Les Saisies is maybe the best centre, in that it's higher than the others and the snow record is particularly good. It has loads of restaurants, bars (including one which has live music reasonably often, some decent shops including excellent (pricey) butchers and traiteurs. New for this season is the French Alps only four seasons luge and there's some floodlit skiing, quad biking, etc. People tell me there's a "night clurb" but I can't vouch for that. wink

No casino, swimming pool, hideously expensive and fantastically good restaurants or McDonalds. For all that, go to Megeve but it's far more expensive place to stay. If you want to ski the ED I'd say it would be better, especially with teenagers, to stay in apartment right on the piste than to have to drive them places.

Lifts have improved - Praz has a fast 6 man chair now, and a new drag opening this season will hugely speed the trip from the top of Praz to the top of Notre Dame and Les Saisies and means you can miss out those fearsome drags in Praz sur Arly and Flumet. One of Les Saisies' steep drags has just been replaced with a chairlift - sadly - it kept the riff raff away from 3 great pistes.

my teenagers loved Crest Voland because of all the between piste "off piste" and tree skiing, which is accessible and very safe - in fact the whole area is reasonably, if not wholly, devoid of big dangers.
