Poster: A snowHead
|
Been to France Se Chevallier (1st ski hol - Horrible instructor), Banff Canada (loved it), Italy Champoluc (no snow/half runs closed, others all icy) Bansko Bulgaria (Bomb scare week, but still liked it).
Where would you go to help me progress (wide red's or short if steep, very wide blacks if possible)
Enough for a skier and snowboarder who will ski anything (or try anyway) mainly on piste
Somewhere where a 15yo (nephew), who has not tried skiing apart from field at the end of our road, where he put on blades and was
actually parallel skiing without any real instruction on his first run (rides motobikes/motorcross and ice skates so has balance etc).

Val d'Isere. It's the new Bankso. Once you're up on the mountain there are many very nice blues and reds, and you can ski into Tignes with little effort. Face de Bellevarde is also pretty wide, and you can see the end from the start of the steep bit.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Obertauern has some very nice skiing and you don't need to go anywhere near any scary runs There's a nice wide not too steep black and lots of wide reds. It is high and relatively snowsure and has some lovely hotels - well the one I stayed in was lovely! Mostly ski in/out

Bikergirl, where you go is probably less important than finding an unhorrible instructor. To progress, practically everybody needs lessons (few people have the natural ability you describe in your nephew - my OH has a nephew like that, too.
Val D'Isere (and Tignes) certainly both offer some v good instruction. Or you and nephew could do a Snowworks course, or Warren Smith or similar.

Bikergirl, Kitzbuhel. It even has a few black runs that I like and most red runs are very flattering too.

Montgenevre, v.near Serre Chevalier. If you flew to Turin, you will have driven through the resort.
I learnt to ski and progressed greatly in the hands of the ESF instructors there. Lots of great easy blacks, cruisy reds and blues. The ESF there are reknowned for being great English speaking tuition.
You can ski into Italy as its a part of the huge Via Lattea (400km+ which held the alpine winter olympic events in 2006)

Avoriaz.the advantage of ski in ski out for a beginer saves all your energy for the slopes, no walking in your boots and carrying your skis which can be off putting for the first timer
