I don't think I have ever gone back to the town at lunchtime - just getting there and back would take too much of the skiing day.

If you fancy a bit of a drive up the valley, or are skiing in La Tour, the the train station in Vallorcine serves some of the best Crozet and Tartiflete in the french alps, i think.

Don't know what it's like these days (years since I've been) but the food at La R'mise a Ravanel used to be very good - it's right on the road just as you're going into Argentiere from Chamonix, so much so that you really wouldn't want to eat outside - the outside tables are in the car park!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Best lunch was at the restaurant next to the train station at Vallorcine, as davelebus, says. Wondrous Spag Boll and a great Flette.
Not cheap, but we are talking Cham and virtually on the piste. The run down, if you do it from the top of Le Tour without a stop, is also a great appetite creator.

Cremerie, down a track on the right mid-way down the home run to Argentierre? Decent croute (if very little else from memory), and feels like a hidden gem (until you notice it's on the road ). Probably need to book in busy periods.

bobinch, It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't as bad as you might think and nowhere near as much as you would pay for 2* in UK.

ChrisWo, also a Ravanel place, I think, ie same owners as the one I mentioned. They obviously specialise in restaurants on roads!

Restaurants in the mountains are another matter. I think my favourite is the Refuge de Lognan, on the far right of the Argentiere ski area. A limited number of tables so it sometimes helps to book.
