Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Opening early, 55cm of snow in the villlage, 85cm at the top and temperatures (with wind chill) forecast to be below freezing for the next week.... Looks promising enough to me!

3 years ago there was not a snowflake in the 3 Valleys at New Year, so, by comparison, this has to look promising.

But then again, was it Pam W who predicted recently that any snow that falls now would inevitably be gone by December? ("Always look on the glum side of life - de do, de do, de do de do de do..")

Much prefer to be optimistic myself!

right... so you will be skiing on soup (with the +5C temperatures at resort level) while freezing your nuts off in a negative windchill.

no, what I said that was getting either excited or glum about the state of the snow in early November was a waste of time. Which it is. Much of the snow fallen so far at low and medium altitudes will most certainly be gone before long given the forecast for the next week or so. It was lovely to see those sparkly webcams, but they had no significance as some kind of portent of the winter to come. Neither am I glum in the face of the forecast for the next period, which is sh*te. I shall certainly be glum if the FL is still at over 3000m come mid-December though.

And I think that saying there was no flake of snow in the 3V at New Year three years ago was over-glum. It wasn't quite that bad.

Recalling the snow at New Year 3 yrs ago , I seem to remember that at the level Val T is at that there wasn't a bad amount of runs available before New Years day , then New Years day arrived along with a metre of new snow !!! leading to decent off piste which can be rare at New Year, Bergmeisster you must have been pissed for half the week .
There was alot of bad press that year about the snow which led to a lot of lost business for the area , it actually wasn't that bad , just shows you , last season was a bumper for Italy , Southern French Alps and Austria but average for the Tarentaise , just shows the power of the press .

1. I saw his photos - bales of hay and green fields at the sides of the sad, man-made strips of snow.....(I'm actually wondering if you and he are talking about the same year?? Bergmeister will have got his dates wrong - see below.)
2. Knowing him as I do, I'd say pi$$ed for the whole week...and the week before....and the week after......and the week after that Toofy Grin

ValTho got a sprinkle this morning.

Still whiteish at resort-level.

May get another 5 - 10cm over the next 1 to 5 days:

Any idea what the two long poly tunnels on the webcam are? They weren't there a couple of seasons ago.

It was snowing quiet hard yesterday morning for an hour or so, freshened up the pistes nicely, but a lot more needed yet - most of the base is artificial. It's been getting colder tho'

I'm driving over to Val Thorens from Mottaret for my first day's snow tomorrow.

Couple of questions Patch - I'm planning on buying my 3V season pass tomorrow morning in VT... Will this work? Is this pre-season time in VT covered by a season pass?

the wigglies look good to me - temps on or around seasonal average with loads of activity on the precipitation runs.

d.brophy, we bought our season passes on sat (21st Nov) and used them all weekend so yes your season pass will cover the pre-season time in VT. Have fun.

Go on steph, make us jealous...

Dare I ask? How many days skiing will you be squeezing in this season in the 3 Valleys?
