Poster: A snowHead
|
Have managed to persuade my little bruv ( hes taller than me!!) aged 13 that he has to wear a helmet on our forthcoming trip to Arinsal. Ive enquired and we can hire helmets in resort, but I wonder about the standard of them? how well are they checked etc, so bear in mind hes still growing ( does your head get bigger after 13?hmm) can anyone recommend a reasonably priced helmet?
Cheers
Nade

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Any ski helmet they are hiring out should meet the relevent standards - however, just like feet, head shapes differ from person to person, so what fits someone's head might not fit someone else's, even if they are the same nominal size.

Head sizes don't very dramatically. I look after the helmet stock for our club, and the 80% of juniors take either a Small or an Extra-Small, whilst 80% of adults take a Small (although we do have one who takes an XXXL!!).

RobW, Cheers, I wonder about hairline cracks in the shell etc, how well are they checked out. Have found a good deal on helmets via the natives sight and as hes coming to BSM in April i think i'll buy him one.

I forked out for Cebe helmets for the both of us in the end, very helpful ( and extremely gorgeous) French guy in Carters took ages with us. So I may look like a bit of a muppet, but If its Nade vs a tree, hopefully i'll win!

There's no substitute for trying the helmets on one by one. Although, as RobW suggests, most kids can fit into any one of a small number of helmets, heads aren't all the same shape. If your brother's buying his own helmet, he'll want to put a high priority on fit. Last week, my son tried more than 20 helmets before he was really happy with one. Of course, being a kid, there was the little matter of style to be considered, too...

Nadenoodlee, Check out www.skihelmets.com Purely an advice site - no direct sales, no bias, but it is has some great info, together with all the manufacturers details and their sizing charts.

Thanks guys, managed to find one he was happy with, his main complaint was " I cant hear properly" so once we got over that he was happy enough! My only requisite was one that doesnt make me look like a total plonker, and remarkably, it doesnt! hurrah!!

Nadenoodlee, just noticed the new sig. Does it refer to helmets, nice white teeth, legs, or any other part of you ??

kuwait_ian, I think she is referring to B2's, incorporating, Upper Torsal, Dual Vas Balancing and Hi-Vis assets, which she intends to use to her advantage!
