Chris, avatars are images that appear below your name in posts - they're kept fairly small (80x80 for example) but can make lots of short posts take up loads more room.

Thanks. You know that Tango thing did make me think about the commercial value of this site. Whenever I go on to my favourite football club's site I am bombarded with ads for things I'm never going to buy. But skiing stuff I am going to buy.......

The www.phpbb.com site demonstrates how subtle advertising could be, if it was thought necessary for this site - I don't believe it is for the time being.
