I have been looking at Courchevel for that week and the preceding week and have done some research alondgsimilar lines. It might be helpful if you advised number of people, which level at Courchevel, transport arrangements reqd etc...

abbyphilpotts,
Welcome to snowHeads.....
Try this list on the official Courchevel website. I booked an apartment in C1650 for January this year and was very reasonable. Trouble is now, you've probably missed the cheap flights for March - suppose you could drive there.

abbyphilpotts, forgive me, and welcome to snowheads. I'm quite cuddly really.

Just had a wonderful holiday with Ski Olympic in Courch 1550 - got the deal for £435. They also had accommodation in 1650 - both directly linked to the 3 valleys area. In fact, 1650 is a nice skiing area in its own right. Try Ski Olympic nearer the time, they always seem to have good deals. They were a good company, not posh, but friendly with good food. Would not hesitate to go with them again. The flights and transfers were flawless, flights left on time and transfers efficient. Got a 10.00 flight from Stanstead and actually managed a couple of hours skiing before dinner. Give them a try, was very refreshing to see that you can enjoy a wonderful areas like the 3vs on a budget.

1650 is good for quiet skiing when the rest of Courchevel is heaving. A bit of a pain to get anywhere though as you need to bus up to !850 or down to 1550. 1550 is linked directly to 1850 by the Grangettes bubble which runs into the evening. Don't even think about 1850 if you're on a budget. Ray Zorro is right to suggest La Tania as being probably the cheapest option. I will be skiing there next week but am staying in Moutiers and driving up each day. Takes about 20/ 30 minutes. Not ideal but no one will let you take an appartment for 3 nights mid week in Courchevel. Not surprising really!!! Staying in the valley also a lot cheaper for eating out!

Lovely conditions in La Tania on Friday and Saturday. Skiied the blue and the red several times down to the bubble. Liked La Tania, also St Martin. Good restaurant there for lunch! Oh happy memories....

Jonpim, yes, yes, now stop scaring the new people. abbyphilpotts Courchevel has a reputation for being expensive, but in practice it never really is unless you want it to be. Erna Lowe specialises in accom. only. And all the usual TOs go to Courchevel, so it's a matter of ringing and seeing whether they'll do you an accom only deal. Best to try at the last minute tho.
It's not necessary to stay in 1850 in order to enjoy skiing in the Courchevel valley - any of the satelite villages are perfectly serviceable, although probably not 1650 if you don't like having to hoof it on public transport. No need to stay in Brides, unless absolutely necessary.
BTW the Mountain Centre is affiliated with snowtrip.co.uk, who may also you an accom. only in their chalet in Les Allues down from Meribel, if it isn't otherwise filled up.

Oh try the Maeva, Odalys and VVF websites. They are the companies who own the appartment blocks, you may find they still have some vacancy.

sallyanne, Glad you had a nice time, also glad SO were as good for you as they were for us. Did you do the lunchtime picnic?. Courchevel is a great place and can be done in style without breaking the bank. How was the Chanrossa?

We did do the picnic - bit of a laugh. The Chanrossa was basic, but staff were so friendly and relaxed didn't matter. Food was good, some complaints about breakfast being a bit mean, mainly from the blokes! We had a huge room at the back with an amazing view. Was a short, but sometimes icy, walk to the bubble, and from there a relatively short ride to the main 1850 Croisette station. All flights (stanstead to Lyon) left on time and the transfer was so quick, we managed to squeeze a couple of hours skiing in before dinner as the 1550 lift runs until 7.30! Was impressed by SO, wouldn't hesitate to recommend them or use them again. In fact, thinking of squeezing another week in in early April, work permitting! Did you say you'd stayed at Les Avals, if so, what was it like, heard good reports about it?

sallyanne, We stayed in Chalet Mors which was good, not modern but with some charm. It was about 300yrds walk to the bubble, or 150 to the 3 valley chair. The ski bus stop was 40 yrds, which we caught most morning to take the kids to 1850 for lessons. This was very easy. Mors was next to another Ski Olympic Chalet Monique which was supposedly even nicer. We did have a problem with a drunken wandering chalet boy at 03.30am which was very unfortunate and down to the individual rather that ther company, but apart from this it was fab. After much argument we got a decent refund for the person effected. 24 others had a great time
We have booked to go to La Rosiere with them 27 th March. And would recommend them without hesitation. This year SO were only doing 6 day hols on the week we wanted, so we went with Silver Ski to La Plagne. They were similarly superb. Very similar companies who i think have got it just about right.

Have told it some where before but cant remember where. Mors & Monique are next to each other, female staff live in monique and Male in Mors. This was not explained to us and we hhad never met the Male staf that worked in Monique but slept in Mors. Staff go out one night and get well hammered. Chalet boy comes back to chalet and at some stasge decides he needs the loo. On way back from loo and naked apart from his shreddies he goes into the wrong room, gets into the bed of a single, and very reserved 20 yr old girl and proceeds to hug her legs in a vice like grip, top to tail. Girl is terrified beyond to the point wher she cannot speak. Fortunatley her room mate, a similar aged but less reserved girl, wakes up 5 mins later and senses something us wrong, puts the light on, and the smelly stuff hits the fan. There were 24 of us in the chalet, all friends, even split of adults and young kids. It had other implications in that one of the kids who has cerebral palsy became very paranoisd that it would happen to him and slept very little for the rest of the holiday (a parent had to sit/sleep with him).
It could have been worse as alot of our friends are rough farmers with hands like shovels, imagine this lad had been found in bed with an 8 yr old girl. The girl involved was too distraught to take it any further so we did on her behalf. Despite all the correct proceedures being followed in resort it took several letters and calls to get satisfaction. the reason given was that most people complain about nothing so SO just knock back every complaint. I was astoubned at their stance as we had had such a great time with them, and our complaint was so genuine. We had even had the SO 3 valleys resort manager, dine with us all one night to discuss the matter.
I am sure this was a one off incident, and was the ONLY complaint of our holiday. If anything Silver Ski were even better than SO, I considered both Holidays OUTSTANDING value for money and a wondrful experience. I have said before, but cannot imagine a better type of holiday (except Scott Dunn of course )

Blimey, sounds like a huge misunderstanding - makes you wondering who he thought he was in bed with! Poor girl, hope it doesn't put her off chalet holidays.

Chris Angus,
where are you staying in Moutiers? (we are doing the same at Easter to extend our week into 10 days and avoid the traffic). Staying in the Faubourg - basic (to put it mildly) but cheap! Any food recommendations?
|
|
|
|
|
|
Well we're staying in Le Commerce. Is basic too but comfortable! Can't argue for £22 per room per night! There is a good restaurant that I remember. Going on Tuesday so will report back at the beginning of March for you!!! The Faubourg is the one close to the station as I remember....it looks fine!

In 2005 New year I stayed in a PG flat in Bourg St Maurice and skied 3 times in 3 Vallees plus one day to Valmorel. Moutier is exactly another 17 miles from BSM.
If one drives that one should travel to deeper locations like Val Thoren which is too far away from Courchevel 1650.
Moutier is also 17 miles from Albertville which has a better scope for shopping and food.
