Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Has anyone ever used the snow train?

Looking at a good deal for four of us to go to Courchevel mid March but via the Dover snow train to Moutiers.

Any feedback/experiences of the train would be grateful.

Have used it a number of times. Good fun, lots of communal spirit, including alcoholic spirit. The most civilised part of the journey is the ferry crossing. If you want a night's sleep take some ear plugs. Make sure you have lots of bottled water and treats.

The disco car is one of the more extraordinary phenomena of European rail travel. The further you are from that car the more sleep you'll get (think of it mathematically - the nearer the end of the train the fewer will be the numbers of passengers passing your compartment).

David Goldsmith has said it all. You'll get more skiing, not much sleep.

Ooo first post on Snowheads and it's something I know about Very Happy

it is indeed a "crazy train" perfectly timed so you arrive in resort on Saturday morning just as tha hangover kicks in Crying or Very sad
Great fun if you're in a large party orientated group, and an excellent way to fit in two more days on the slopes for no extra cost (although some small comfort sacrifices).

Just remember plenty of duty free and don't expect to sleep much as David has said.

spyderjon, there are lots of ways of going by train, each of which is a slightly different experience. See this thread: http://www.snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=4926 and in particular Jonpim's post on 11 Feb summarising the different trains.

If you are set on going from Dover, you will certainly be on the crazy train

Feeback? Just don't do it.

For thos who don't like staying awake all night, or someone else's vomit in your couchette, the best train option is the DIY evening Eurostar to Gare du Nord, dinner in Paris and an easy hike across town via Metro to Gare Austerlitz, then the overnight couchette to Bourg, as set out by Jonpin in the link in Tony Lane's post above. You can easily book both Eurostar (as per Jonpim's link) and the couchette (try SNCF website). Shouldn't cost more than £150 for a return, often less.
