Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Chamonix in the week beginning 13th February

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'd like to ski Chamonix for the first time in 2010. Unfortunately the only week I can do it is the week of half-term. Does anyone have any experience, please, of how busy it's going to be during that period? I don't want to spend my first winter visit there doing nothing but queue.

Thanks,

Matthew

MGA, I suspect there might be better places - possibly best to avoid France altogether that week, or if you want to ski France, pick somewhere British TOs haven't heard of.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

MGA, I was in Chamonix for this years February half term and the longest I queued was for the top lift for the Grand Montets, about 20 minutes, followed by the first Le Tour lift at about 10 minutes.

Admittedly, I could have been fairly lucky judging by some other peoples experiences and we did have an organised bus to take us to Argentiere or Le Tour which I am sure helped, but I have queued longer in both Meribel and the Ski Welt areas in and out of February half term.

All in all, this past half term was no problem as far as I was concerned.

MGA, as TouchGuru says, last year there were no issues at all. My perception is that this was for 2 reasons.

1. Compagnie du Mont Blanc have been investing heavily in the lift system - notably a new bubble lift up to Brevent. Two top tips. 1. Buy your liftpass online. 2. Consider buying the Mont Blanc Unlimited pass - you can then tootle down to Les Houches if you like (it's on the pass). 3. Also consider that you have a free bus service to Courmayeur and a day's skiing there.

2. almost everywhere was running to capacity as the snow was so good - which meant less concentration on higher areas - Chamonix wasn't having to pick up capacity from lesser snowy resorts.

I am hoping that 2. is repeated this year.

Incidentally, it is snowing heavily outside my window in Champoluc as I type.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

pam w, and there was a pretty wintery blanket in Chamonix too. So we got about 10-15 cms in Champoluc at 1,500m and about 6-8cms in Chamonix at 1,000. All very pretty, I know it's relatively meaningless, but cheering nonetheless.

Thanks very much, everyone. I'm glad it's already snowing in Champoluc.
