Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Socks are NOT a replacement for snow chains, The requirement in most resorts is for snow Chains (and tyres in Austria)

One of many previous threads about socks here

From their website
Quote:
Q6: Are they approved for use on roads where snow chains are mandatory?
A6: This is a grey area. It's better to be safe than sorry, so you should take snow chains for e.g. self-drive ski holidays to the Alps

Boredsurfing, So are you saying we still have to purchase chains? I thought they were an alternative!! Had snow chains for previous car and travelled to france x 2. New car has clearance of 10mm between tyre and shockabsorber which could be a problem!! and we are travelling to Austria for xmas. (Not read about tyre requirement, rather an expensive outlay) Thanks, appreciate your comments.

Austria Shocked At best hope that your current tyres are rated M+S (printed on the side of the tyre) at worst you will HAVE to buy a set of Winter tyres,
Details in this thread

With 10mm clearance probably the only chains that will fit will be spykes spiders,

supernannie,
assuming you still have your old chains, try fitting them.

My car's wheel/tyre combo was listed in the user guide as 'not suitable' for chains - but I bought a pair, and they fit without fouling the suspension.
I did the 'stick your fingers behind the wheel' test, beforehand, which indicated that there may _just_ be enough space (and that the back of the wheels was _really_ dirty rolling eyes

Obviously there may be issues from a strict liability/legal perspective.
