I am after a new pair of ski boots. I don't have time to get to the specialists down south so will go to Castlefords Ellis brigham. Is there anyone to ask for in particular to get a good job done? I was told to ask for Slave monkey anyone back this up. My last boots have done multiple trips each year for 10 years and I want something thats going to give me happy feet for another 10 years
Cheers

I got my boots from EB at Cas, and I don't think I'd go back there.
They were badly fitted, and after a few very painful trips, had to get them adjusted properly. I can now ski a full day without being in agony.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I went to a guy in Bolton who was very thorough. It's all motorway once you get on the m62!

justapurrin,
what DaddyLouLou says.
I got my boots from there too. I wasn't convinced about them at the time, but the fitter persuaded me they were fine and that all boots were agony at first.
So off i went on a weeks trip to France - spent the whole week in utter agony with no blood supply to my feet and having to undo them at every opportunity (even on lifts).
On returning to the UK I went back to EB in Castlefield where the same guy took another look at the boots. He fitted me again, checked the boots and insisted they were fine and that i should start wearing them around the house to break them in. He said that they were so tight because they were a "performance fit" and "designed to give more control". I had never told him i wanted a performance fit, I was only an intermediate skier!
He did some stuff to them and the next year they came away with me again. And were painful the whole trip. Again.
I've now been on about 5 holidays with them and the last couple have been OK and the boots are now wearable (i think due to a mix of some extreme in-resort stretching and me losing 2 stone in weight**!).
To be honest, I don't know why i persevered with them when they were so obviously wrong. But i did.
However, I wouldn't go back there for boots ever again.
**Can you lose weight off your feet? I think i did a bit!

Can't recomend EB in Manchester enough, however that shop has been there years and the staff have evolved with the store. I have not found the same level of knowledge at these snow-dome stores

Folks,
OH and I bought boots from EB at Castleford recently, fitted by Tom. He spent a loooong time with each of us, looking for the best shell fit, and we both came away with very snug-fitting, but comfortable, boots
So far, only used the boots on the slope there, but we're both very happy so far - no sign of any discomfort for either of us
If you do go there, suggest you go when it's quiet - you have more chance of getting the attention you need

Can't argue with the service MrsFE and I got from Tom and Hanna respectively. My Speedmachine 10s have worn in brilliantly, and MrsFE's collapsed arches have been soothed by decent footbeds and a forgiving boot in Atomic W80s.
I am sure there are more experienced and talented fitters out there, but I can't fault the service we've had at EB@Cas.

justapurrin, I haven't been to EB at Castleford but my son bought a pair of top spec Technica boots at EB Covent Garden a few years ago and destroyed them in a season, he was working as a ski instructor at the time. He wasn't happy as he'd owned other boots that had stayed intact. EB were great, although they found it hard to believe that the stiffest boots they sold could split in a season, they hadn't seen Daniel ski, they sent them back to Technica and he got a complete refund. I have to say their service, is in my experience, vastly superior to Slush and Rubble.
