Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Winter Tyres

Your link doesn't work but I see it contains "Vredestein Snowtrac 3".

What size tyres do you have the Snowtrac 3 works better on smaller tyres (e.g 185/60 R14 T)

but for larger dimensions there are better alternatives.

The top two (Goodyear and Hankook) all season tyres in this link are a good choice for someone who commutes to the Alps in winter but only wants one set of tyres for allyear round. A top quality all season tyre won't match a winter tyre for winter performance but is better than the cheaper winter tyres in winter.

I can swop the tyres whe I get back to the ones that on now (summer). Any suggestions. Just looking for something that will work just short of putting on the chains (you'd think I would know about this sort of stuff by now Sad )

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Wayne,

For that tyre dimension you can't go wrong with the snowtrac-3.

DB, Cheers for that, just got to find someone that sells em and fits em in the North West now. I will be away so Mrs Wayne will be sorting it

Wayne, we had Snowtrac 3s fitted the day before the snow came... been no problem at all getting around on snowy, slushy and icy roads - they feel very, very grippy. There's a bit of road noise on some surfaces but so far, very good.

We didn't hesitate to buy Vredesteins as we had a set of Wintrac Xtremes on our previous car; they did 4 winters and well over 15,000 miles including 5 return trips to The Alps. Never needed to put chains on.

J2Dave, Cheers for the feedback

Sorted
Have ordered a set of Continental Winter-Contact 830
Couple of reasons - available from Gordon Ford's (rapid fit) in Wigan only 2 miles from casa del wayne and they seem to be at the top or in the top 3 of most lists that are around.

I laughed at this thread yesterday but, with the 11 year 'bump' post removed, it makes no sense now. A shame, in some ways.
