I'm just surprised that Wearside hero Wor Mike Ashley (God bless 'im) hasn't flogged off that ridiculous monstrosity of a stand at **Sid James' Park for development as a ski slope/car park/block of flats/whatever will pull in most money/annoy the fans most......
**Oh, sorry it's not going to be called that any more is it? How about?
- The Theatre of Nightmares
- Billy Smart's Stadium
- Neverland
- Nevereverland
- The Andrex Arena (it's full of lower league s***)
- Sir Damien Duff Arena
- Greggs Stadium (owing to the number of their customers who frequent the place)
- Hank Marvin Stadium (living in The Shadows of Sunderland)
- Laurel and Hardy Stadium
- Oxo Arena (they're a laughing stock)
And if we're talking trophies, it definitely won't be The Winalot Stadium........

I'm amazed it's taken so long for the north east region to get an indoor slope sorted,
big population area, could possibly do well.
(although whenever I go to to Xscape in Glasgow its dead!)
Shame it isn't planned for Newcastle right enough.

could be a while before it is built but good news as castleford is quite a drive, and too far for a regular trip

And still nothing south of London. Do these developers not know where the money is?

Why's that then?
Prefer to be adjacent to a Coca Cola Championship stadium in Skunkcastle would we?

Do you know of any such sites south of London? That is, where they'd be likely to get planning consent for leisure, and unlikely to get planning for resi or offices (because if they could it would make the land value too high to be commercially viable for an indoor slope). Easily accessible by a large population.
If you do know of any such sites please PM me the details!

beanie1, well they managed to build one at Hemel - which isn't far from London - and actually there are a lot of old quarries about the place which could be used in the same way Bluewater got built.
Perhaps you are right and the real issue is that they are not a profitable enough use of land. But we still manage to have Chessington and Thorpe park and Legoland, all of which are much much larger... I would be surprised if they could not hide one somewhere around Guildford or Chertsey.

stoatsbrother, there was already a slope at Hemel from way back when when property/land prices weren't ridiculous. They wouldn't have got planning permission to replace it with anything other than a similar sports facility.

...and it had to occupy the same footprint, hence the 'lack of length' , IIRC?

It makes sense to built in Sunderland. There is nothing that needs to be demolished that will be missed and there is no view to spoil.

JulesB, How true, reminds me of recent objections in Port Talbot to a wind farm being built off shore that it would ruin the view out from Port Talbot

To be fair it's only in the last few years they've been able to see more than 100 metres in Port Talbot.
Why build a snow slope in Sunderland ... didn't appreciate there were any skiers oop North?

Agenterre, we prefer to think of ourselves as "artists on snow" rather than plain old skiers.
