Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where can I do an avalanche course in Morzine or UK?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hey

I was wondering if anyone knows of some companies/ski schools who offer avalanche safety training in Morzine or the north of the UK. I just want a day or 2 day course that covers searching and general awareness. Im in Morzine for the season so really want to find a course based there or any where in porte du soleil for real practise but not having much luck finding one.

Thanks in advance

Henry's lectures etc in France have been well worth attending, so I would second bertie bassett's advice.

Glenmore Lodge do practical courses out on the snow - probably not suit you as this will be well into the season. Still worth checking them out to see if they do anything sooner. They also have some good info on the website including online learning course / quiz. (Glenmore is home to the Scottish Avalanche Information Service - daily forecasting through live snowpack stability testing across 5 mountain ares in Scotland, and avvy data collection/research

Welcome to snowHeads tee1.

Unfortunately I've never heard of anyone running a course locally in Morzine or around the PDS.

There are, however, companies that run courses in Chamonix - http://www.chamex.com/courses/avalanche-awareness and http://www.mountaintracks.co.uk/winter/alpine_skills/avo_awareness_foundation and http://www.mountain-spirit-guides.com/avalanche-awareness.asp

If you haven't got a car then it's possible to hitch over to Chamonix and back with some patience.

Just find a guide that's happy to do it. Get a group of people together so you can split the cost. Voila, avalanche course.

Nick Parks would happily send someone over from Chamonix if you can't find a local guide that fits the bill: Mountain Tracks.

I went to one of Henry's talks in Wandsworth last year, certainly worth the £6-7 it cost. Tempted to do the beeper training on Crosby beach as it only a five minute walk but the website now shows its as Formby instead which is probably a better venue!

kristof, it's £35, I'll charge you a tenner and find some kids digging big holes. Seriously though I'd be up for a practice before the season starts, I'll bring mine back up to Liverpool.

I was waiting for someone to jump on the price and organise a snowHead beeper training session

Bring it back up and we'll head over to Formby ourselves. Anyone wants to join us, let us know.

I've been looking at doing the Mountain tracks 2.5 day avalanche foundation course parlor, mentioned above.
Maybe the advanced one (3.5 days) at a later date too.

Would anyone be interested in doing it in Verbier if I organised it? We will probably need 4-6 people to make it viable.
If not I'll do it in Chamonix.
