It's fancy dress day at snowHeads - if you'd like to dress-up as something snow-related, let us know what it is (sorry, the Yeti costume has been rented out)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, snowHeads - founded 5 February 2004 - celebrates its first birthday today! And what a precocious bunch of people we are - just a year old but we can walk, talk and we're even potty-trained. The humour remains infantile (keeps us young) but the skiing is totally adult - we're well beyond parental guidance.
Where are we now? At the stroke of midnight 4(-5) February, there were 1813 registered snowHeads, and we've collectively written over 90,000 postings in our first 365 days. This is where 'snowHeads the community' seems to be exceptional - high-speed typists with unlimited things to say, stuff to report, tragedies to tell, jokes to crack, advice to share.
Where are we going? Where will it all end? Who knows! If you've any suggestions for the second year of snowHeads, post them below!
Happy birthday to us! (Psst...There's a birthday party going on in Apres Zone,.)
A warm welcome to our very latest snowHeads: Mr & Mrs Sticks, who are on their way to Geneva today

Thanks, snowHeads, for making us feel so welcome! We're just flying over Paris at the moment, on the way to Geneva and a week's pole-planting in the Swiss Alps. Hoping for some good weather after all the recent storms, and lots of lovely powder!
It's great to join the snowHeads community, and we'll try not to be too stuck up.

Without doubt, this is a phenomenon of our time. I've spent the past quarter century (first article on skiing in 1978 in the late Ski Survey magazine) scribbling and typing about skiing, but this - snowHeads - is something really special.
Journalism can be a lonely pursuit - generally you don't get letters from readers unless you make a mistake or say something untrue, dishonest (unthinkable), libellous (careful) or 'provocative'.
But here's a 21st century communications medium which has nothing but goodness at its heart. Friendly debate, mountains of freely-exchanged information based on real experiences, and nutty humour.
What do we know about internet ski forums? The first I ever joined - must easily be 10 years ago - was the Compuserve Ski Forum. Compuserve was one of the first email providers (it wasn't really part of the web, it established itself as a powerful communications network at the time) and it had a great ski forum, but they shut it down eventually.
www.epicski.com has to be a benchmark because of its size and influence, but there are a number of tricks on this side of the pond which seem to make snowHeads a very distinctive place to talk. Onwards and upwards, in the good gondola snowHeads.

A Happy Birthday and wishes for many more to you all! As someone who was welcomed at SnowHeads when EpicSki had its meltdown last year, it's nice to know that we are "sister communities" across the pond. All the best for good times and good skiing!

Hello, all one-year-old snowHeads!
Our first day's pole-planting in Grindelwald was fantastic - powder everywhere - up to our necks in it (we forgot to bring the baskets and got in a bit deep)
We're thinking of taking up skiing now.
