Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Car Hire Salzburg

Has anyone hired a car through Auto Europe at Salzburg ? Their prices look a lot better than Hertz etc and reading the small print looks like they include winter tyres etc in the price (but not chains ?). I cant see if they are using off-airport hirers though and even though its a pretty good price, we'd prefer not to have to drag round the airport industrial estates trying to find the place, or hanging about whilst they find us.

I booked car hire with Auto Europe at Salzburg airport this summer (though I am not sure what would be included in a winter hire package).

The car was actually supplied by Herz but was at the price stated by Auto Europe. The hire desks are in the building opposite the arrivals lounge across the car park and easy to get to (approx 1 minute walk) All their cars are in numbered bays in a large car park underneath their offices

I found their prices very competitive and the check in for the car was smooth and efficient

I had only hired a small fiat panda but they upgraded it to a Hyundai SUV at no extra charge. I returned the car with only half a tank of petrol and they did not charge me for refuelling

I found them very professional and courteous, with a nice friendly touch

Hope this helps

Aren't all the car hire desks in that little building opposite the airport?, we used holiday autos and the car they got us was from the nationwide desk in that building.

Yes, you are correct, but I seem to recall that the little building to which you refer is actually inside the airport perimeter across the car park

There is one company called 'Buchbinder' that does not have an office at the airport. They normally operate from the BP garage around the corner as they ar enot aloud to 'exchange' on the airport premises.
If you are using a broker like Auto Europe it is sometimes hardto know which company will supply your car until you have pressed the actual book button online.
It isn't a massive pain in the whatsits but it is a little off to the side!

I remember it was a little walk outside but we were very fed up at the time due to the fact that jet2 had decided to drop us off in Munich where we couldn't afford a car, bussed back to salzburg where car hire company had given our car to a walk in and had nothing left!....slightly stressed

flangesax, Yes we have used them before. They take you to a petrol station 600 meters across the main road to get your car. You have to return it back their and walk to the airport, it is not really a problem and I remember their prices were cheaper than others.
