Poster: A snowHead

WHERE IS IT?! I was in Kitz last Feb (I think it was feb) and remember the Aprés being awful.
Was I looking in the wrong places?! An awful lot of sites are rating it as 5 out of 5 for aprés and I'm just wondering if I missed something?!
I went to the Londoner, refused to drink in there as its almost double the price of a beer anywhere else in Kitz except the Irish bar. Thats about as lively as it got anywhere!
St Anton is a 5 out of 5 but unless I'm missing something Kitzbuhel most definately isn't!
Thoughts people?[/u]

I had a great time in Kitz in March 2008. If anything the Londoner was probably the worst bar of the lot; expensive, dodgy pub singers, nowhere to sit and full of Brits.
Bars I preferred: Das Lichtl, Bergsinn, Streifalm and Highways for dancing.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I agree, was there last year.
Didn't enjoy the skiing and thought the apres was really over rated!
The Londoner was the only busy bar we could find and like you say was pretty steep for a beer.
In my opinion Kitz is really over hyped, but I guess it depends at what you are looking for in a resort, getting about on the bus was a pain and there are a load of bottle necks on the mountain meaning massive lift queues.
I wouldn't rush back. But I'm sure there are people who love it for their own reasons.

I thought the skiing was ok, not the best I've had but not the worst (Possibly because we had a quite a few pow pow days). But I only found a couple of other bars that tended to have nobody in them! I wasn't far out of the centre (hotel edelweiss just behind the train station) so didn't have to get the bus

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Just goes to show how different people's experiences can be. I found it hard to fault Kitzbuhel, the only thing that could have improved it for me was if we'd had snow at resort level, but that's beyond anyone's control. The skiing was perfect for me, large ski area and nothing too scary. The nightlife was great, prices not bad, no queues and my accommodation, although basic, was comfortable and clean and just a short walk to the Hahnenkamm bubble lift.

queen bodecia, I'm not for one second saying I had a bad experience, I really enjoyed my holiday and was not expecting mega apres ski when I got there so was not disappointed by it at all. My hotel was excellent and run by an extremely nice bloke called Klaus I was just wondering why all these sites rate it as lively. I found it about as lively as Les Gets!

Try the pubs on the slopes towards Kirchberg. Schneebar Oberkaser on the slope is very nice for instance.

anotherproblem, I found it really lively, although the slopes weren't hugely busy. I went mid-March 2008. Maybe you were there for a quiet week?

We were there for a boys weekend early Feb'07. We found the 'late night action' moved around between bar and so you had to ask a ski-bum where to move onto... apres-ski we found most places pretty lively.

I also thought that the apres ski was very overrated. The Londoner was ok but was like any other lively bar in the UK on a Sat night. A group of us then trawled the other bars for some decent nightlife but didn't really come across any. One bar was full of nobby late middle aged types smoking cigars and drinking champagne and the one we settled for in the end had the look of a 1970s school disco but was patronised by a few elderly local couples on their Saturday night out, doing waltzes etc. Fair play to them. This was in Jan 2007 when the snow was virtually non existent and the world cup race was cancelled. So maybe we were just plain unlucky. But give me Ischgl any day. In fact Obergurgl was better than Kitz which, for apres, reminded me more of France than Austria.

pjd, yeh I think you found it to be the same as me, I would of been happy with the Londoner or the Irish pub but compared to the others they were so damned expensive! But the cheaper pubs and bars like you say either had nobody in or was full of people drinking champers and cocktails etc! It makes it a bit worse as my trip the year before was to St Anton!
